I never doubted for a second Martina would win this match.

"She's going to win 60 per cent of her matches, just because of her name, but playing wise she's already top 10 or 15, easy."

1-6 7-6 6-2 to Flavia.
Hingis apparently suffered a hip flexor strain sometime during the match.

I always thought that playing Sydney was dumb. It's not good for alot of players to play the week before a slam, but I could see why she would want to. But play a shit event like Hobart if you want matches. In Sydney, most of those players are top 30. Any way you look at it, she's probably not going to get a great draw.

If you want to play top competition, Sydney is the only option. Well, until last year. I'd prefer her taking this week off, though... or, at least, don't play doubles.

I think you only skip a Slam warm-up if you think you can win the Slam.
Tina needs to remember pro tournament play. She's not going to win the AO so why not?

Memories of 2004 New Haven pop in my mind, and a tear rolled down my cheek...
Anyway, I'd normally suggest Tina plays Sydney... but, this part of the schedule sucks. It's at least 80s + yucky humidity every day in Aussietrailia this time of year. And those rubber courts lead to injuries. Save a week now, and play Tokyo, Paris, etc...

She should play if she feels good now. Very little travel to get there, and she isn't likely to get more than a match or two, so I can't see it being too fatiguig.

Sigh. Marti is going to lose. Justine will do her thing of sucking hard to start out tournaments, while Marti implodes up a set or something.

She'll probably be in the same group as Elena, though, so they can't both lose every match.

WTA site front page has a poll this week asking what was "the biggest story of 2006". Guess what story is crushing the competition: www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/1/ (For me, the biggest story was Amelie winning Slams. )
