Despite her awfulness, Dani has a pretty good doubles pedigree. She's partnered people like ASV, Ai, Bhupathi and Santoro. With only half the court to cover, her movement's less of a liability and she's got good hands at net. Kind of like Kournikova 2.0.

Matt Cronin tweeted that Davenport said that Hingis is just getting her feet wet in doubles to prep for an autumn singles return. Just a rumor, but...interesting.

I really hope she doesn't come back in singles. No good can come from it.

Looking at the price money table for Slams, I say she would be stupid to only comeback in doubles.

It turned out that an overexcited Cronin misheard something Lindsay D. said and tweeted away without checking, like some giddy teenager. No Hinglis singlis comeback is currently planned.

Cronin probably goes to the same high school as Serena, Maria and the rest of the mean/gossip girls.

He doesn't even bother to fix his article on tennis.com , or to apologize on Twitter. Who cares about facts.

He didn't mishear it. She said "I predict Hingis will come back in singles" during commentary. I heard it too and also tweeted it. Lindsay later re-stated that it was a prediction. Anyway. Hingis Fail all around so NOC.

I like how everyone predicted she could easily beat the entire top 10 in doubles - yet is hardly winning any matches. 3 in four tournaments.

I'm not ready to call it a Fail yet. You can't be 6 years without playing and then show up with an average partner and expect to reach finals. So far her results are what we should have expected. She should at least try another partner before calling quit.

The Economist Trending: What is a sociopath? Diagnostically speaking, it is someone who possesses a mixture of the following characteristics: charm, grandiosity, bloodless rationality, impulsivity, an appetite for risk, an erratic sex-life and little capacity for remorse.
I wonder if Hingis could be a sociopath? She's charming but there's also the Chucky/evil grin/remorseless side of her personality. Her candid comments over the years suggest she feels very little empathy for others. Appetite for risk, checked. Erratic sex-life, checked.

Considering that modern WTA doubles is just baseline rallying with some easy poaching, I'm guessing most of her court craft doesn't come in as handy as it used to. Plus, her serve is terrible.
On the other hand, I watched some of their match vs Kvitova/Kerber and she was easily the best player on court, so maybe Hantuchova is the problem. I don't really think Martina gives much of a damn though, she just seems to be doing this for shits and giggles more than anything.

Well that wasn't fun while it lasted! Hingis done for season, undecided on playing in 2014Thursday, September 19, 2013 by Matt Cronin Former No. 1 Martina Hingis has ended her season, TENNIS.com has learned. Hingis returned to the WTA in August to play doubles with Daniela Hantuchova, but the pair failed to get out of the second round of any of the five tournaments that they contested. After her loss to top seeds Sara Errani and Robert Vinci at the U.S. Open, Hingis said that she planned on playing Tokyo and Beijing. The Hall of Famer was listed on Tokyo’s web site as planning to play and then withdrawing for “personal reasons,” but a member of Hingis' camp told TENNIS.com that while both Tokyo and Beijing offered her wild cards, she never accepted them. Hingis will still travel to Tokyo to take part in the event’s 30th anniversary celebration. The 32-year-old Hingis—who came back for the second time in her career this season—has yet to decide whether she will compete again next year. www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/09/hingis-done-season-undecided-playing-2014/49221/

Hingis will still travel to Tokyo to take part in the event’s 30th anniversary celebration. How ridiculous is that? She withdraws from Tokyo for "personal reasons" but still flies to Japan to attend a party? Couldn't she just show up in Tokyo and Beijing to collect her paychecks and then call it quit? At least it would have looked like she played until the end of the season.

Not if her personal reason is severe injury to the ego, administered by just about every team that's played against her since her return.
I saw her USO match, and the failure of this team is not Dani's fault, no matter what Dawn Marie and other savants may think. Hingis had some sublime moments out there but also showed plenty of rust; it wasn't only her serve that was lacking. It's a shame that she was somehow convinced that: a) good results in the short-form WTT format, and b) being able to keep up with, and to out-think, Pavs (Pavs!!!) during coaching sessions, would translate into instant success on the Tour.

Apparently that was in reference to singles. She's supposed to be playing at least exhibitions in Australia in January.

Yes, but exhos? She was supposed to be coming back to the real doubles Tour. When she saw it wasn't going to be easy to rule there, she quit. I can't blame her, since I'd do the same in her position, but it still irritates me.

I don't think she's ruling out playing on tour in doubles at some point next year, though. The story Cronin ran was based on a quote she gave about returning to singles.

I guess she didn't rule it out; happy to see that she's playing in IW w/ Lisicki.
