How was handshake? Reception? Speeches? I'm at work, of course. Cold handshake. No kiss. Crowd was cheering for both of them. Amelie's speech is nice. She speaks English very well, and kept it to a good length. Justine's speech was very gracious.

Handshake a *bit* cold, people are happy Mauresmo won, Henin "speech" was nice. Mauresmo "speech" was a bit weird, I guess she didn't know what to say about Henin and mentionned Justine was probably physically tired after the French Open and Eastbourne.

Considering Henin didn't show any sign she was tired, it's just weird it came up during the interviews.

Holding two Slams + YEC? She's a duh #1 now. Thank you. She also just won the biggest match of her life. No more "Amelie gets nervous" talk, how 'bout? That was a sweet victory, Hurley. My players never win. Nobody thought Amelie could do it, she did. This erases all doubt about what Australia was. It was a win for Amelie, no blemishes, no wondering.

Considering Henin didn't show any sign she was tired, it's just weird it came up during the interviews. It was. Either Amelie was trying to twist the knife, or she was trying to be nice by giving JHH an excuse and not taking the credit.

They're still not completely erased... like I said before, if Justine just keeps the ball in play on MP, it probably gets really ugly for Amelie considering how she played that point. But, Amelie played great in the 3rd and Justine made a bunch of errors. She put herself in position to win, and it was good enough.

But she's still going to have serious issues with certain players. Serena and Lindsay, if they ever come back, both own her. And that's not all mental. She has issues playing against pure, accurate power. She's always had a decent H2H against Justine, and some big wins over her as well - I thought the 2003 YEC SF was a great match for her.

Anyway, the match: I thought Amelie deserved a little better than 2-6 in set one, but that's how it went. What I loved was her strategies for calming herself and not letting herself mentally lapse: running to the changeovers, pumping her fist, bouncing up and down to receiev serve, the occasional 'allez!' After the rather sedate, sluggish opening set, she didn't let herself stay in that mindset. Smart. As for her tennis, it got better and better for Amelie. Each set she played better. She really is great on grass. The slices seemed to work well, and her ploy of bunting the ball back on service returns worked again. But the serve won the match for her. Amelie could still get better at the net, mostly with her shot selection and timing. I am guessing that her net instincts get a little rusty with 50 weeks of rarely doing it and two weeks of pulling it out of the mothballs. No matter. I don't think she'll win the USO, but hey, it could happen. Two Slams this year is good enough though.

the handshake was not cold liars Considering they are supposed to be "friends" and it's a Slam final, the least to be expected is a kiss and a couple of words exchange. I said a "bit" cold, it wasn't that bad, but it's obvious they aren't "friends" atm.

Obviously her nerve problems are somewhat overplayed, huh? Just no more, "How will Mauresmo lose this one?" mid-match comments.

Congratulations to Amelie! A well-deserved win. Nice to see her play the way we know she can on grass. Too bad Justine had too long of a lapse, but her prediction was right: the bolder player would win on the day. And the bolder player was Amelie this time.

A good final, totally different to last years, with the net rushes and slices but a good one. By far the best final since last years.
I'm pleased for Amelie, I've been critcal, but she didn't choke and she got that slam, she got her moment ;D
Justine didn't play great, but I think this was a case of Amelie winning it, rather than Justine losing it.

I agree. Though Justine could not hit a ball right for a set and a half. But Amelie took advantage as she should, and then JHH did pick it up again, thank God, but too little, too late; Amelie was on fire by then. And now we get to see the GNOME on tv!!!
