Deuce! This is not looking good for Venus. Sania is fit and sharp.

Lol, from wtaworld, one of my favorite posts of the year in response to Venus saying no to possible court change:
"3 things come to mind: 1. she's PMS-ing...again! 2. perhaps she knows the muslims are out to bomb Sania and she knows RLA has tighter security 3. she wants to be the modern day Rosa Parks who was asked to move and refused"
Can Sania CLOSE? We'll find out in a minute.

Okay, so Venus held. Let's hope Sania can serve it out. We want this win.

You can tell the fans just want one of the gals to roll their ankle and go away so Hewitt can start. But they can always use this time to get more intoxicated.
6-5 Venus. Mirza's chances will be slim if she loses this set.

Come on. Pull a Molik and beat erratic Venus at night!

Someone posted this on MTF. It's Federer's 5-set records in Slams: 9-4. Overall he's now 11-10 in 5-setters.

Some of his early career 5-setters are interesting, especially those wins over Wessels (I believe he lost to young Juanqui! in that '00 USO), Kratochvil (fellow Swiss back when he was decent!), and Sargsian. He almost beat Jiri Novak 9 years ago at Wimbledon, must have been super young.
6-0 Venus. Oh brother.

I don't think Venus was playing Russian Roulette. That looked like craps, and she just rolled a 7. Sania didn't even get a chance to roll the dice.
Haha okay, too corny. It's 6:51 AM.

How sad that this thread title never came to fruition, at least not yet. Spadea should be happy about the much-needed extra rest. I can dream of Ferrero def. Spadea 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 R16.

He beat Nadal in the Miami final in 5 sets one year. He's lost a Rome final and a TMC final to Nalbandian in 5 sets. That's all I can recall off the top of my head. Interesting to note that in '03-'07, he only had the 1 Slam 5-setter each year. Is this the only 2008 5-setter he'll play at the Slams?

Very possibly.
Off the top of my head, he lost to Hewitt Davis Cup '03 in 5, I think he might have been up 2 sets too. That was of course the last time Hewitt beat Federer, and most likely the last time he ever will.
Didn't he also lose a 5-setter to Jiri Novak in Gstaad right after winning Wimbledon one year?

Wow, Pam Shriver has been down in Australia every year since 1979 except for one. She played (singles or doubles) from '79 until '96. Then was a broadcaster every year missing one for the birth of her child. Not a bad vacation to make every January.

Pam also said it's uncommon to start matches after 11 PM. However, it's up to the director's discretion. I can't imagine any man wanting to disappoint the patiently waiting, intoxicated, paying fans and say, "Hewitt and Bag can wait till tomorrow. Go home, toodles! Thanks for giving us your money and not getting much live tennis for it. Also don't forget to buy some overpriced t-shirts and mugs on your way out." We'd need some more pepper spray.
Mirza fights off BP!

I've been doing Federer research on tenniscorner.net. Looks like he is 2-5 in non-GS 5-setters. That would make him 11-9 overall, and not 11-10. Although tenniscorner.net thinks he's 11-8. Whatever. Anyway...
