Wow, Mathieu is even more of a wuss than Gasquet. After going a double break down in the second set, and showing no signs of discomfort at all...he just threw in the towel. Pathetic.

Apparently Ferrero is back to the Prince. That, and the haircut = back to basics. Does he beat Ferrer or no? I'm more worried about David #2 for him than I am about Djokovic. I want to see him beat Nole and prove that he is better. But he's not better.

Goodness. Gasquet is truly hideous-looking. The gaggle of gays who want to bone him perplex me verily. I like him, a lot, but he's horribly ugly. Eh? I'm not a fan of his body type, but he has curly hair and pretty eyelashes. For that, I find him rather cute.

I'm Leena. I'm an Internet Celebrity. My posts are easily discernable since I like unpopular Russian players, am always bitchy, and my unique typing style. Despite what people say, I have not trolled at WTAWorld or MTF for like 2 years now. Those boards are useless now since 99% of tournaments have live scores, and they don't get entry lists anymore. But, rebecca.proboards12.com does! Illegally!

I'm Corswandt from WTAW. I still post my verbose writeups in there when I have the time (right now, not very often), but apart from that I interact with WTAWers as little as possible, since that l00ny bin scares me. So when I feel like entering a conversational thread I prefer to log in here.
Jankovic played zombie tennis. Her shots lack any kind of bite, got bossed around by Dellacqua far too often, and every single one of her "serves" will get eaten up by The Wrestler.
Considering that this surface is now playing like an ice rink, the way The Wrestler has been serving, and the way Henin has already got broken 14325325 times when serving for sets/matches, I'd worry. About that subhuman piece of scum Sharapova I wouldn't worry. If Henin finds herself in trouble, she'll just slice balls to that contemptible corporate clone's feet until that sorry excuse for a human being misses.
Lousy performance by Vaidisova. She stayed in rallies much better when she played The Wrestler in Moscow. Part of it is that her BH is useless in low bounce surfaces such as this one. She would have to develop a chip/block ROS on that side, and also a decent BH defensive slice, but I doubt she's got the hands for that.
I'm seriously fucking pissed at how the Sharapova vs Dementieva matches always seriously fucking suck. Since Vaidisova and Sharapova will never play each other, this is my fanboy special, and it always sucks. Always. If Dementieva claims to hate Sharapova so much, how come she never brings it on against her? Inferiority complex? Maybe she does wish she was like that "false Russian" after all. Even ES seemed to think this was a foregone conclusion, and showed next to nothing of it. The little they showed featured Sharapova blasting away every single one of Lena's serves - be they 1st or 2nd. I guess Dementieva's serve only seemed decent until she met an aggressive returner.
The men - FFWD.

Anna wasn't SUCH an awful player. After all, she did score wins over Graf, Seles, Hingis, Davenport, Sanchez-Vicario and Martinez to name a few. I always rooted for her. She had a hot body. And she could play.

Anna was far from an awful player. Her movement and defensive abilities were matched by few.
It's a shame that she derailed her career right after she was playing the best tennis in her life.
I used to hate her a lot more when Anna was Russian tennis, and pissed it all away to be a whore. Now that there's 21424 crappy Russians, meh.

I'm happy for Youzhny and hope he goes all the way now that Andy's out.
After having 3 easy opponents Justine will be stepping up in competiion when she plays Maria in the quarterfinal and that should be a major adjustment for her.

I never put a poster on ignore before. I guess you're a Justine fan? I was harsh on her, but I think very rightfully so. I still hate that she retired in that match. However, I have much more respect for Justine after how well she played in New York. Best tennis to beat the Serena/Venus combo ever. The more I think about AO 2006 final bullshit, the more I want Maria to beat her tomorrow. I should probably stop thinking about it.

And she could play. Pre-2000 Anna was actually a great player. She had better craft and style than about everyone on tour today besides maybe 5 players. Her win over Davenport in Miami 1998 was brilliant, and that should have been her first tournament win. With her talent and looks combined, I was totally excited for her just like every other straight boy or gay boy or gay-who-didn't-know-he-was-gay-yet boy. Bud Collins is convinced Anna would have been more of a factor if not for the injury that kept her out of 1998 (?) Wimbledon after winning Eastbourne, where I believe she beat Graf. He actually thought she would win Wimbledon that year. But yeah, ignoring that, I do believe she had the potential for a few Top 10 seasons.

The only reason Justine fans are still really defensive about that match is because they know she was wrong and there is no good way to defend her. The hand was one thing, that was more up to the umpire to call. But disrespecting the sport (as well as the opponent and the country) is very different.

Most Justine fans try to squirm "her" way out of that one, I didn't necessarily include you in that.
I, and I think everyone on this board, take this sport very seriously. So watching someone do that is not forgivable, ever. I have gotten over it. I applauded Justine last year getting over the divorce to a gay man and reuniting with her estranged family. I applauded Justine playing damn fine tennis in Flushing Meadows. But being reminded of the Amelie final does briefly put me back in that moment, and I was really angry. It's a blemish in her career that can never be erased, so I hope she feels like crap when she thinks about it too.

LOL. We're discussing this. I don't think anyone, Justine fan or not, was happy about her behaviour in that final. (Four more games, Justine! Just...stand there, or whatever!) But I've never stopped supporting for a player I love because of their questionable decisions, because it's ultimately not about that. (Now Nastya is pretty much gone for good, Justine has graduated to No 1 fave.) And I think most top players have acted in ways which, to my mind, disrespect the sport.
For what it's worth, learning that there is a history of stomach cancer in Justine's family put her actions in a slightly different light for me.

But I've never stopped supporting for a player I love because of their questionable decisions, because it's ultimately not about that. What is it about, then? I'm really curious because I haven't 'loved' a player in years, and the few I like a bit, as soon as they disappoint me I quickly abandon them. The few players I liked a lot haven't been top-players. I can't love top-players. In fact, I can't love any player the way some of you seem to do. And that confuses me. I don't understand the concept of supporting a player "no matter what". The reason could be that I don't want to be disappointed if the player fails/sucks/annoys me, and then be stuck with her because I have to. So when you say "yeah I didn't like Justine's behaviour but I still love her", what exactly do you love about her, and why is that feeling unrelated to anything she does?
