The only reason Justine fans are still really defensive about that match is because they know she was wrong and there is no good way to defend her. The hand was one thing, that was more up to the umpire to call. But disrespecting the sport (as well as the opponent and the country) is very different. That, or people are tired of discussing it because you can only beat a dead horse so many times before it runs out of guts to spill. I'm going to assume that it's probable the latter.

And if she tanks those last 4 games, she could get fined like Evil Kolya did. Meh, I'm not getting into that one again...
But, the HAND~. Good times. I need to watch that 100 times again for ol' times sake.

But I've never stopped supporting for a player I love because of their questionable decisions, because it's ultimately not about that. What is it about, then? I'm really curious because I haven't 'loved' a player in years, and the few I like a bit, as soon as they disappoint me I quickly abandon them. The few players I liked a lot haven't been top-players. I can't love top-players. In fact, I can't love any player the way some of you seem to do. And that confuses me. I don't understand the concept of supporting a player "no matter what". The reason could be that I don't want to be disappointed if the player fails/sucks/annoys me, and then be stuck with her because I have to. So when you say "yeah I didn't like Justine's behaviour but I still love her", what exactly do you love about her, and why is that feeling unrelated to anything she does? Well, results aren't as life-and-death for me as they used to be, but I think it's because I'm not as invested emotionally in any player that it's easier to support them "no matter what". If Justine does something I disagree with, whatever, no big deal. I mean, what I love first and foremost is her game, obviously. This is the first time my favourite player has been a proper great; all my past faves were marginal elite players and headcases (Novotna, Majoli, Myskina). So I'm used to my favourite players sucking and choking. It's virtually a prerequisite.
