Sania Mirza crashes out in first round Press Trust of India Hyderbad, November 24
Sania Mirza went down fighting in the first round of the $75,000 prize money ITF Tennis tournament being played at Poitiers in France. Sania lost to Mirvana Jugic Salkic of Bosnia Herzegovina 5-7, 6-3, 1-6, according to information recieved here on Wednesday.
Despite the first round loss, Sania gained 8.5 points and her WTA ranking is expected to go up to 190 as she defeated three players ranked between 200 and 275 in the qualifying rounds in her first event at this level.
Sania put up a tough fight in the first set before going down 5-7. The Bosnian, ranked 157, could not do much in the second set as Sania Mirza bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second set.
In the decider, however, Mirza gave up without a fight and crashed out of the tournament by a 1-6 verdict.

Aw shucks. But thanks for the article, Birniby. At least she qualified for a $75K, which is not too shabby. I will try to catch up the other events tomorrow. Probably I will just post the SFs or F, depending on who gets to the end of these things and if we like them or if they are those yawn-invoking types.

Kerber is a genu-ine, bona fide young 'un -- born in 1988: I just hope she doesn't get labeled by the German press as "the next Steffi" quite yet! But congrats to her on her Opole title. photo910.tripod.com/sfotohtm/ker4738s.htm

"When I was in the juniors then I felt there was a lot more pressure on me, but now I think a lot of it has died off. I am in my early 20s now and I don't think people have such high expectations for what I am doing."
That is the understatement of the year!
"I have to thank `Pim Pim' a lot because he has been helping me over the last year, and his father. I have been spending a lot of time in Sweden and if it wasn't for them, I haven't really had much of a coach in Australia, so it's really been up to them and their help to me that has helped me improve."

I see Aravane Rezai qualified ( beating Buns Lubiani and Daniela Kix along the way)... her bad dad notwithstanding she is racking up some decent results of late. Also in qualies, Teeny Weeny Pizzichini lost 1R ro Szavay.

Not Georgette Wright! omg :lmao: Poor little Pizzichini I saw that French girl had qualified, but did not recall her Bad Dad situation at all. Those are decent wins, no? So the Dad will now feel justified in his badness -- boo! I root against daughters of Bad Dads, as if their failure could wipe out the species somehow.

Losing to Tom Henke in straights is not good for Emma: that was a "RNS Test Match".
