Emma needs a break; it's been a long year for the kid. And she's not used to the sun being out for very long in the winter, you know! Where she comes from, a winter day lasts from 11 am to 2:30 pm maybe! So she is just getting a little bit sleepy, that's all.
Time to go home for a few weeks, Emma! Come back refreshed and ready to take over the world!

Clarisa Fernandez is back in business! She won the Miami $10K. Her road to victory was: Sarah "High" Riske, Tamara Bunic, Svetlana Krivencheva, Julie Ditty and Xie Yan-Ze in the final -- only lost set was to Ditty. I should mention that my Beier Ko reached the quarters and lost to former jr acette Ryoka Fuda, who in turn lost in the semis to Xie, 63 06 64.

From the LTA site Hull - Women's $10,000 Event (26th - 30th January 2005) Last week’s runner-up at Tipton and local girl, Katie O’Brien, seeded 2 progressed into the semi-finals of the Women's $10,000 event in Hull. In her quarter-final match O'Brien overcame Swedish ‘lucky loser’ Mari Andersson 6-1, 6-4 and will next face Belgium's Caroline Maes the number 8 seed in the semi-finals on Saturday. In the other half of the draw two other Brits on show were Surrey’s Clare Peterzan and Middlesbrough’s Sarah Borwell unfortunately both players weren't able to join O'Brien in the semis. Peterzan lost to Yulia Ustyuzhanina (UKR) 4-6, 6-1, 4-6, whilst third seed Borwell was defeated by Ivanna Israilova (UZB) 6-1, 1-6, 2-6. Play on Saturday and Sunday starts at 11.00 am with entry free of charge and plenty of spectator viewing.

I can't believe how pathetic the Tokyo qualie draw is. Pattaya is actually better, or more interesting, with the likes of Pe'er, Kirkland, Gumulya, Mende, K.Bondarenko, Castellvi, Akgul the Giant, Su-Wei, Shikhaaaaaaaa, Bratchikova, Rodionova....

Hurley's fave player Marie-Ève Pelletier won the Waikoloa, East of Java, $50K -- 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final over Sromova.
"It must have been 35 degrees with 100% humidity... in the third set I was really fatigued. I had to call the trainer twice, once for my ankle and the second time for a blister. (foxée!). She was hitting a lot of drop shots and making me run. But I finally served out the match at 5-4. I am very happy with the way I fought."
She is off to India next, for Hyderabad!
-- M.-E. Pelletier
