She still won't beat Amelie. "Not sure whether we will see Amelie Mauresmo again in this tournament although obviously everyone hopes that the recent shoulder injury does not result in her withdrawal" -- Eurosport

"There's nothing to say about that match except it could be worse in the next couple of matches," Mauresmo said. "It's hard to say anything positive about a match like that. I speak better Spanish than I played today."
"There was no pain in my shoulder -- I just feel a little behind the play and I made stupid mistakes," Mauresmo said. "It's the kind of match I would play after missing competitions."
"Petrova didn't have a great game," Mauresmo said. "She had a good game, a smart game, and that's what's frustrating."

I don't know for whom to root. Probably JHH because I do want her to finish the year #1. I forgot to set my DVR!!

Maria will be #1 for the next decade. Or, until she rebels. Get used to it.

Maria will be #1 for the next decade. Or, until she rebels. Get used to it. I fear this, and it's probable. I'm sure she'll win this event, and if JHH doesn't make the final, which is very possible, that will make her #1 for the year.

I have no idea what the hell was going on at the end of that 2nd set, and the worst thing is that Justine has been doing it a lot this year. But, overall she played better than I had expected.

Hey Leelee, let's hope Masha doesn't rebel for many years. But I have a feeling her rebelling is coming sooner rather than later. And don't make her a great tennis player yet. I think Masha still has to do it over a long period of time and win several grand slams to be considered a great player. OMG @ Dementieva's 16 double faults in her straight set loss to Sharapova. Poor Elena. I hope this doesn't ruin the rest of her YEC experience. But I fear it will.

I predicted Maria's rebelling to ensue within the next 3 years. While it would be a shame for her game to depart us for a while, it would probably be for the best. Actually, she should do it now, because none of these young players look like they'll be even close to her in a handful of years.
Stupid Demented.

JHH ices it, finally. Tina may beat Mauresmo. Possibly, but I kinda think indoors is not the place for that. Am I the only one who doesn't foresee a Maria takeover? Remember, she still is on the losing side of her H2Hs with Amelie and Justine.

A grass court matchup between Maria and Amelie?

A grass court matchup between Maria and Amelie? I've always thought Maria was toast on clay, and to an extent I still feel that way. She's clueless on how to move on it. In time, I think she'll get better on the stuff, probably challenge some top players on it, but it will always be her worst surface. [/newsflash] Someone like Justine, though, she'd never beat on it. I don't really care how good she gets on it. But could she make the semis of RG one day, or even next year? Absolutely. And Maria can beat Amelie on grass. On any given day on the surface, I put their odds at 50/50. Maria didn't play well at Wimbledon against Amelie this year, but if she gets hot on the stuff, Amelie is fucked.
