I've always thought Maria was toast on clay, and to an extent I still feel that way. She's clueless on how to move on it. In time, I think she'll get better on the stuff, probably challenge some top players on it, but it will always be her worst surface. [/newsflash] Someone like Justine, though, she'd never beat on it. I don't really care how good she gets on it. But could she make the semis of RG one day, or even next year? Absolutely. And Maria can beat Amelie on grass. On any given day on the surface, I put their odds at 50/50. Maria didn't play well at Wimbledon against Amelie this year, but if she gets hot on the stuff, Amelie is fucked. Hardly the stuff of dominance, no? Well, that sounds like 2-Slams-a-year territory, so, though not dominance, considering how much she plays and wins in Tour events, that would certainly be enough to give her a lengthy stay at the top of the rankings. I don't think she'll be Federer-dominant, but I don't think I said that. But #1 for a hell of a long time, and the most frequent titlist on Tour? Probably.

Very probably.
Who do you see topping Maria in 3 years.
Justine isn't going to keep this up much longer. KIMMIE will only be playing Antwerp, Hasselt, and Fed Cup by 2008. Willies? Lolz. The other current Russians have proven they can't do shit against her.
None of the current crop of kids have a complete enough game to consistently challenge Maria, as most are just crappier clones of her with glaring weaknesses.

I don't neccessarily disagree, I can't help feeling people said the same in the past, about eg Martina, the WS, the Belgium etc. So it might not be three years. Maybe Marion will continue her inexorable rise and provide some kind of challenge.

I'm sure we'll see more talented players in the future. But, it's not happening for a handful of years. The kids rising now just don't have it. The players who should be dominating now, aren't.

At least she's winning sets, which is a lot more than the R-tards at WTAW thought she'd do.
This one ain't over yet either, though I would expect Nads to come through.

Oooh, big win for Hingis. This will come down to the wire.
Btw, why is Dementieva utterly useless at this competition ...

Nice win for Martina. I thought she'd get her ass kicked here. I'm glad that she's doing well for herself. Hopefully she holds herself together tomorrow; given Mauresmo's form, it's a very winnable match. I think that was the best I've seen Martina serve in a while.

Unfortunately for my prospects of pints, it seems to me that if Tina makes the semis Amélie probably won't, and vice versa.
