Bum. Still, not a bad comeback year for Martina, on the whole.

Not bad at all. It's good she won one match here, though, to prove she belongs with the Big Girls again. I wish I had a chipshop in walking distance! (Though i'd probably weigh 200 lbs if I did.)

Sveta cried for 10-15 minutes following her beatdown by Kimmy, says Tracy Austin. If she has any tears left, looks like she'll be bawling tonight too.

Btw, why is Dementieva utterly useless at this competition ... Because she's just not that good. And I'm a big fan of hers. She's better than zero wins EVER.

JHH avenges the Berlin loss to Petrova. Last time JHH lost two matches in a row to the same player was February 03 - Clijsters in Sydney/Antwerp And now November '06 to Mauresmo.

Yes, 62 in the third to AM. I'm not going to watch the Screecher. Her dress matches the court color, btw. Amelie took off the Chokomomo cape! Yay! THE REAL #1!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, I think Justine's days of winning non-RG slams are over. Sweata hit 0 winners in the first set today.

Good semifinals though. Probably the best four players in the world, rankings be damned.

Justine shared her thoughts after her Friday's match, and reviews her own form this week.
"I feel positive, I've been out of tour for two months. I'm content with the level of play that I reached this week. It is good. I served well, and pushed forward, my backhands are working too. I slowed myself down after the second set. It was an intense match, and the second set was very physical. After weeks of inactivity it wasn't easy."
Friday's match gave Justine more court time.
"I played well, but not enough in the end. I'm trying gain match practice, build my legs, and off course confidence. If it isn't already obvious, I'm doing this in a very short period of time. I started to play this week after a very serious injury, yes there was a risk, but today I'm reassured of my fitness. The injury doesn't bother me. And tomorrow I will have the opportunity of playing another match!"
Justine's focus will be only on Maria Sharapova now. The American based Russian is on a winning streak, but Justine is ready for her.
"If I didn't believe I could win or had lost earlier this week I would've already left for my flight. It's a semi-final, and regardless of who my adversary could be. I move on court well this week, I'm not injured. I have the right to have a bit of leeway, the season is almost over. I still will give the maximum, and I hope to do so in the next two matches. It was a huge challenge for me to be able to play here, I see where my tennis form is. I am not very far from the best level yet, and despite the loss today. I'm very pleased. I'm still improving the mental aspects of my game. I will show her that my motivations are enormous at home in Europe too. One of my main objective was to make the finals at the Masters (Madrid), and I have an opportunity now. She's in great form, and has a lot of matches in her, but I'm relaxed because when I have my goals set, I always attain them."

Good semifinals though. Probably the best four players in the world, rankings be damned. Yeah, I agree. Am glad that Kim has this chance to prove herself, after the US Open injury misfortune. I just can't see JHH beating a totally in-form Sharapova indoors. I wish I could imagine that, but I can't.

Having only 1 Russina in the YEC semi's is dissapointing to me. But the 4 best players in the world are in the semi's which is good for the drama and women's tennis.
As for Hingis. She had a pretty good year but didn't play well for the most part in the big matches.

Told ya It's easier for JHH to play against Pova than Momo. Really, against Pova she just needs to hold serve, and return serve (not an easy task since she's so short), put in a few slices etc.

Hardenne stuns Sharapova to take number one spot
MADRID, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Justine Henin-Hardenne clinched the year-end number one spot when she ended Maria Sharapova's 19-match winning streak with a 6-2 7-6 win over the Russian in the semi-finals of the WTA Championships on Saturday.
The three-times French Open champion produced a wonderful display full of guile and determination to overcome the 19-year-old and secure her place in a first Championships final.
The 24-year-old Belgian took the game to Sharapova from the off and forced her opponent into a series of uncharacteristic errors with her pin-point backhand and clever serves.
Sharapova, who had not dropped a set on the way to the semis, looked bemused as the pint-sized Belgian returned everything she could throw at her and was never able to get into her stride.
Henin-Hardenne, who reached the final of all four grand slams this year, will play either defending champion Amelie Mauresmo or two-time winner Kim Clijsters in Sunday's final.

But I didn't think she could beat Pova indoors, especially in this uber-confident "I'm so unbeatable" state which Maria has been dwelling in since the US Open.
