"I just didn't feel like myself today," Sharapova said. "I felt a little sluggish. I didn't feel like I was concentrating.
"You hope to find a way to break through that, and I felt like I was getting there at the end of the match, but I just couldn't put two or three good points together." [Err, maybe that had something to do with Justine's game? ]

Great Mauresmo won.
Now we can see it all over again tomorrow. Justine will win the first set easily and then fall apart. Afterwards hablovah will get an orgasm just by watching the match.

Maria embraces her Asian roots. Most of you should like her because of this.

And a final word on Martina:
She was flat as a pancake the whole week, and she got even flatter from match to match. I just don't see her working her ass off Justine-like to become ultra-fit for 2007. So I assume lack of fitness will continue to be an issue. She was gifted a set from Justine, she beat mental midget Nadia and she lost against Chokomomo because she could hardly move anymore.
Overall, this event has not been a real indicator of what Martina is capable of against top-players.

And - one more reason why RR is great:
It exposes the overall dumbness of humanity. See WTA Tour and WTAWorld. I'm glad I wasn't online last night. Not sure why I even bother to post my stupid Excel file when no one's using it.

Dementieva, with this latest loss, is now 0-9 in round robin Championship matches, and an incredible 0-18 in sets played. She's actually 1-11. She beat Rubin in her last match back in 2003. Well, ok. But she's still on an 0-9, 0-18 streak.

"The atmosphere at the end was just incredible," Mauresmo said after the match. "The way people got involved in the match was so nice. And for both of us to be able to play some very high level of tennis, it really feels great."
"In these matches it's only a few points that make the difference," Clijsters later said. "At the end it could have gone either way, especially at 3-all, where she held and I had break points. But, I thought the way she came out was incredible. I don't think I've ever played against her where she played as well as she did in the first set. There's nothing you can do, just try to keep hanging in there."
Anybody have the attendance numbers so far?

I don't know, but I'm all set to watch the coverage of the first semi and they're saying it's sold out. Now they're saying Sharapova's story "is one of the most remarkable in all of sports". Are the announcers going to be rooting for this Wonder Woman, then?

We got a video of Maria modelling and blabbing away about her self, but no video of :Justine's story: "The Postman's Daughter"? Nope. they're not even pretending to be unbiased. How satisfying to know that Justine will wipe the floor with Maria's Wonder Butt!

Watched the match:
Wonder Woman was definitely well off her game from the getgo. Subdued, non-shrieking ( for which the world was grateful). Justine interpreted this as nerves. To me WW looked tired and out of sorts.
Meanwhile, Unfavored Woman was aggressive; she S&V'd more than I've ever seen her do, except maybe in the first set of this year's Wimby final. She was sharp and focussed, but did have her usual choke when she had a chance to close it out at 62 53.
Wonder Woman did start playing better right at the end, but that's not to say she started playing better than Justine. However, the pro-WW announcers were positive that if WW could just manage to get that tb, she would then roll right over the obviously inferior UW. It didn't look that way to me, but thankfully we didn't have a chance to find out.

Justine's story has been told frequently though, at least on Eurosport.
But I don't really mind when they tell hers again and again, in sharp contrast to when they tell the from-Siberia-to-Bolletieri-with-just-7-dollars story again and again.
It's probably because that one is just so amazing that I can't relate to it as well as to Justine's.

To me WW looked tired and out of sorts. Quite. The Queen Tigress had already shot her bolt. Her play against Lena D. had been poor, and against Kuznetsova it had ranged from brilliant to just plain sloppy. Today it was all over the place. You don't mention how well JHH served - Maria couldn't do anything even with JHH's second serve. Further heartbroken fanboy musings here: www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php?p=9472706&postcount=159

With the game Maria produce to look brilliant it requires several things: all straight sets, a person who is NOT Justine on her game, a perfect day for her, and freshness. She needs all those things to go right to win consistently.
And I don't see why JHH would have such a hard time beating Shara indoors vs outdoors on HC.
The trend I notice with JHH, especially in this championship, and even throughout the year, is the brilliant first set, and the very obvious drop in the 2nd. She loses her concentration so easily.
Tomorrow is the last match of the year, let's see what JHH can pull out of the box vs Amelie. The latter looks tired, and JHH was starting to drag a little out there. IF JHH can serve was well as she did today that would be 99% victory.

The odds dictate Justine has to win this time. Justine is the better player. Close it out.

"I was a bit tired but I don't think that was decisive. It was just one of those days.... Justine deserves to finish the season as number one. She was a finalist in all the Grand Slams, she was very consistent."
-- M. Sharapova
