Who dressed Maria this fine day? The back ruffles are weird as hell.

Bartoli now up 5-2. I just realized that Marion should win this both on principle and on spec. She's the higher seed! But everybody's all Krajicek, Krajicek, Krajicek.

Oh, I'm sorry, Hurley. Well in real life, Sharapova leads 3-2. She is struggling mightily on each service game but V has not been able to get the break yet, dang it. But V just held. She is doing that easily. now BREAK!! It's working now. But I may use you soon! Ooh, a Karol Kucera reference! Best match ever: win over Andre with the ball tossing!

Who dressed Maria this fine day? The back ruffles are weird as hell. That's what she's been wearing right along. And she helped design it, and she loves it! So now we know about her future in fashion.

Set to Marion! More more more! So, Venus wins, and Maria is out of Wimbledon 4R!! That's one of those pat on the head/kick in the stomach deals. But flip it. No reason why Kuznetsova can't end this madness tomorrow, but she'll probably choke. Guess who is now a DOMINANT #1, points-wise?

Peenus Williams won Maria, what is wrong.

When Maria's volume is not as high, her vocalisation sounds a lot like a catbird I've got in my neighborhood.

Maria is in the abyss.
I'd find Venus a lot more tolerable if she would play like this against the Akiko Morigamis of the world as well. I wonder if Kuznetsova can stop her? If not, I think she's in the final at least. Ivanovic and Vaidisova don't seem capable of dealing with Venus motivated on grass.
So will we get the first Williams-Williams final since Wimbledon 2003? It's a real possibility ... we will see if Justine can stop the other half soon ...

I'll give credit to Sharapova -- when she loses she doesn't mess around! GASQUET-TSONGA: Gasquet wraps up the match in straight sets 6-4 6-3 6-4

Sports is entirely about deserving. It is a meritocracy. Except for, like, figure skating.
If it's Bartoli-Vaidisova, they'd deserve it too.

If they get there, they certainly deserve it. Clearly. I find it a little embarrassing that Maria's #2 right now. She's not playing anywhere near well enough to warrant that ranking, but there it is. Of course, that is how the rankings go. Two of the three 2006 standouts are sucking, and that's made the top of the rankings look a bit puffball.

Bartoli had never been further than the third round at any Major until a few weeks ago when she upset Dementieva to reach the 4R at the French. That makes her run here all the more surprising. That, and the fact that she could hardly buy a victory until May. She has the distinction of losing this year to BREMOND 6-0 6-2(!), among others.
And she has done it. 3-6 6-3 6-2. Probably the best tournament she will ever have in tennis.
