I also saw her play for the first time in 2003 - getting her ass kicked by Marissa Irvin in New Haven qualifying. Actually, I saw her play her first qualifying match too, where she beat Logar easily.

Justine has never lost a match like this, has she? Reminds me of Lindsay losing to Sharapova in the 2004 semifinals here, although even that is not on the same magnitude as this. So Henin's streak of five straight Grand Slam final appearances has ended. And how. It's tough to know how to evaluate this. She looked so fit, so prime winning her French title and she displayed no weakness in winning Eastborne. And she seemed fine in getting through Serena. To what do we ascribe this loss? Marion's match of her life? A Henin meltdown without parallel? Whenever she plays next (Justine), it'll be starting from scratch. A loss like this is no regular L; it knocks one off their throne. And whatever happens tomorrow in the final, Marion Bartoli is a new player, inducted into the ranks of the game's best. Gasquet is bringing me out of my numbness with his play in this tiebreak. He may beat Andy yet. Looking at the match stats, and watching how Bartoli closed out the second set, my guess is that she played the match of her life. In that one game they showed on NBC, she was playing amazing tennis. I'd argue she was playing at least on a top five level at that point. If she kept playing like that in the third, then the scoreline is understandable.

I must say, the timing today has been impeccable. Saw the crucial mid-period of Djokovic's match, then the second set of Venus and Ana, then back to the closing stages of Djokovic/Baghdatis, then over to the third set Gasquet TB, then to the Henin/Bartoli weirdness starting from exactly when it got interesting, and then seamlessly into the crucial fourth set Gasquet/Roddick TB, without missing a single second of anything crucial. Well done all players

It's not so much that Bartoli blisters the ball past her opponent, but she gets it very deep with movement on it, and it just makes them look really awkward, which in turn sets up the big winner.
And she was standing about three feet in on Justine's second serves.

And she was standing about three feet in on Justine's second serves. I remember when she first came up, all anyone could talk about was her return stance. I saw her play Davenport at the USO 03 and she was midway between service line and baseline to return Davenport first serves. Which was mental, and she got whomped, and then she backed off a bit, but it's nice to see that her old eccentricities can still serve her well.

"I can't believe it. I'm so excited," the 22-year-old Bartoli told BBC Sport. "It's a dream come true. If you told me that I would make the final before the tournament, I wouldn't have believed you. "I didn't start well. It was so stressful being on Centre Court for the first time. But then I saw Pierce Brosnan in the crowd and he's one of my favourite actors so I just tried to play a little better." Marion is a real original!

Gasquet has hit 77 winners in this match, say the stats. Make that 78. He's been a walking highlights reel since I switched back to this.

Marion is up to #11 by reaching the final. Good. She deserves it more than anybody around there. I don't know what to expect from her in the title match. I hope she doesn't get blown out. I hope for a contest at least. As for Venus, if she manages to win, I'd have to give her credit. Sveta, Maria and Ana are all top ten players - the win didn't come cheap, despite the fact that there will be no #1 facing her in the final. Four Wimbledon titles would be nothing to sneeze at.

Achoo. A thousand times. Go Wimp. lol, I liked that. What a wacky tournament on the ladies' side. If only MPaperfolding had done the deed in the third round, it would've been perfect.

Q. If this had been the case earlier, to play Justine, maybe vengeance would have been a theme, she having beaten Serena. Does that still come into play when you have a situation like this? VENUS WILLIAMS: I think it's a wonderful thing for you writers. Quite honestly, I'm not going to feed into that or get caught into saying anything silly, so you're on your own. Write your own wonderful story.
