I can't decide if I love or loath the groupings.
The Red Group winners should be Kuznetsova and Ivanovic. By the by, is anybody else having troubles remembering Sveta was the US Open finalist?
The Yellow Group should go to Justine and ... Jelena. To my mind, Serena is the wild card there. She hasn't won a tournament since Miami in March and is quite fallible indoors as the last few weeks have shown. I am happy she's back in the top five, actually, because that's where she belongs. She can win anything, anytime, and I have no doubt she'd skate through the Red Group. But I think Justine and Jelena will set her down and she won't move on.

Lindsay "momma" Davenport would probably skate through the Red Group. Hell she might even squeeze through the Yellow Group.
I like Serena's chances. I don't expect the short breaks to have done much to resucitate Jank and Chak from their collapses in the indoor season.

It favors Jelena that Serena plays her first... that's the only meaningful match in the Justine Group probably, since Anna is going 0-3.

I legit forgot who Serena beat in the AO final this year. I had to look it up.

Oops! Never mind about livestream! It's on tv. "Versus" -- who knew? Too bad I missed Justine crushing AC in the first set. (sorry, Anna! You're okay, but I love to watch JH crushing anyone )

Judging from the Eurosport.com report, the second set was more a case of improved play from the Chak than any serious collapse by JH.

I just spent 45 minutes watching Hantuchova Sharapova.

"And Maria Sharapova is unable to conclude the victory on her fourth MATCH POINT, though she thought that she had it won after the umpire ruled Hantuchova's return had gone long - but Hantuchova rightly challenged and Hawk-Eye confirmed it was in. "

DEUCE - Sharapova now saves a BREAK POINT with a service winner, and grunts her patented "COME ON!" 5-5 - A wonderful return-of-serve and an even better angled winner earn Hantuchova her second break point against the woman who started the year by claiming the world number one ranking with a runner-up showing at the US Open. And Sharapova gifts it away with yet another double fault!! The Russian is unable to serve out for the match as Hantuchova breaks in the tenth game of the second set after saving four MATCH POINTS.

I watched part of that match, but turned it off as soon as Hantu blew 40-0 lead on MS's serve. As we'd all expect her to do!
I had the sound off, and the Closed-Circuit typist made an odd mistake. They were talking about Shrieker's injury layoff, and the caption read: "Sharapova used the time to concentrate on her finances." I was thinking, Oh! Of course! But then they re-typed it: " to concentrate on her FITNESS". ;D

Maria's skin looks even worse, somehow.
She needs some of that Jessica Simpson acne shit. And her fake tits, as well.

On a side note Masha is smarter than Jessica as well. ;D Masha looked pretty good today in beating Hantuchova in straight sets and now has a good chance to make the semifinals.

"The tennis continued to produce breathtaking cameos of just how far this game has advanced as an athletic contest. Both women rushed into the far corners to retrieve raking drives hit with unerring accuracy and devastating power. "
-- Richard Evans on the Ivanovic - Kuznetsova match
If anyone saw it, was it really as good as that? Many thanks an advance.

"And Serenea Williams concedes this match to Anna Chakvetadze, as the American says she is unable to move on that left leg. A very emotional Serena Williams shakes hands with Anna Chakvetadze and then leaves the court nearly in tears."

Tears of JOY. Because the YEC Champion has finally earned her shot! Her first match would be a chance to confirm her totally logical Wimby triumph over JH, I believe?

Cake: YOUR TIME IS NOW. All that stands in your way are two girls you've owned on the big stage this year (Er, is Serena actually...out of the YEC? Can you come back and play other RR matches if you retire?)
