Good lord. A double bagel ... Ouch.
So ... Justine, Ana, Maria in the semis. And I guess Jelena and Chak fight, fight for our love!

If Ana and Maria are both already in, what happens in their round-robin match? Maria tanks, I suppose.

Well, I guess they fight for first place, and the right to avoid the Justine beatdown for one extra round.

Oh, okay. So there is some incentive to win the match, then.
Here's tomorrow's schedule:
Recinto Ferial Casa de Campo (from 18.00hrs) 1. Jankovic vs. Bartoli 2. Ivanovic vs. Sharapova (NB 20.00hrs) 3. Kuznetsova vs. Hantuchova

Jank v Cake is the really meaningless match - but both will be playing for PRIDE.
Anna C in the semis! She got a break with Serena's injury but I didn't think she'd go winless - she has a great record against Jelena. A final might not be beyond her if she gets Ana in the SF.

Jelena won the 2nd set 6-0, got the break at the start of the third, led 30-0 on her serve. 10 minutes later it's 2-5 and she's serving to stay in the match. 5 minutes later she's out. A bizarre meltdown, but that's nothing new for her. Chaky stayed cool though, didn't look like she's about to cry, not too much at least. Well done to her, but I still can't believe she made the semis.

Justine fans greenout needs to do some fanboard cleasing. They're all talking about revenge this and that. Bartoli wasn't a bitch to Justine, "revenge" only fits for Serena and Davenport.

Wow Chak and Shrieker make the semis and both Kuz and Jank could end up 0-3.
Yeah I sure saw that coming

Sharapova was an easy pick -- best by far in her group, shit year or no -- but Chak is a nice surprise. I knew Cake would do something special Cake/Jank should be one hell of a match

Is that true that Cake's father doesn't want her to lose weight because it would make her weaker on the court?

Fat gives you more power?
Interestingly, when Lindsay used to be fat she hit a lot softer and actually ran.

0 and 0. LMFAO. Ugh, that's a horrible loss for Jelana. I'm rooting for Ana now.

Is that true that Cake's father doesn't want her to lose weight because it would make her weaker on the court? It's funny, because during that year where she made her mark -- 2001?? -- and we saw her play at Oyster Bay and the US Open qualifying, Bartoli was ALWAYS working out like a fiend, before and after matches, and she was much more toned than she is now. And, lest it be forgotten, she was a power hitter then, too, standing at the service line to return during the USO juniors she won. Granted, Tour is a different story, and "power" in juniors is nothing like Tour level, but...well, whatever. It's working, I guess, today excepted.

Is that true that Cake's father doesn't want her to lose weight because it would make her weaker on the court? No, I think it was more that he wants to let her eat whatever foods make her happy, because Happy Cake = better player Cake. It just so happens that the foods that make her happy, also make her fat. Just like the rest of us.

That was a nice comeback win for Sharapova against Kuznetsova. I do wonder how well Maria could play if she was healthy. But atleast she's pklaying respectable tennis again. I hope Masha averages 80 mph on her first serves in her meaningless round robin match against Ivanovic and saves herself for the semi's. And I think it's time to reconsider which was the tougher bracket in Madrid.

Just like the rest of us. Yeah I think Fred Stolle started that rumour and he doesn't seem like the most reliable source. On a basic level more mass = more momentum but muscle is denser than fat so bulking up that way would've been better. Carillo's take on this makes more sense: that her constant workouts drained her of energy for matches and made her feel constantly tired, so she found cake and happiness and sugar rushes.

Huh??? Did she not understand exactly why they have an alternate there?

She didn't have time to return when she was already eliminated. Worse conditions it is hard to find. They send the replacement to the slaughter. If I find the same situation next year I will not go, she said, passably irritated.

So, Marion wins by retirement.
Not a bad deal for her. Finishes third in her group, picks up some good ranking points and some extra bucks.
And she can only go up. She lives up to her seedings, and has another good run in a tier I or a slam, and she's near the top five.

[...] Next year in the same position, I won't go." This might probably be the first time in history a player complains about qualifying for the YEC.

Maybe she'll rethink it, now that she "won" a match and earned beaucoup de bucks for very, very little effort. Meanwhile Shrieker is blanking Ana I. With injuries like hers, who needs health?

Ugh, just when you think Mariabot might start fading again... bleh.
This is why Fat Dave is silly for not traveling to Shanghai. Especially when someone quits nearly every year.
