So does this make men's tennis > women's tennis official? Yes, yes it does. *bounces* Not for me, but I'm afraid the future's looking bleak for WTA.

1. Went to lunch with friends at Indian restaurant. ON BIG SCREEN TV IS AWFUL 4TH SET. Do not talk to friends. Cannot enjoy food. Leave fuming and drive 45 minutes back home instead of hanging out (claim stomach issues).
2. Return home fuming. Turn on TV. Nadal holding winner trophy. Dance. Look at DVR which stopped taping at 3 PM. Will never see match. Don't really care.

So does this make men's tennis > women's tennis official? Yes, yes it does. *bounces* To be fair, the women's final actually wasn't bad. Or, so I read. LOL. Yes, apparently it was great. WVS. I really didn't have a preference between Roger and Rafa all those years - I'd supported Rafa at Wimbledon and Roger at RG. But it's funny how watching a match can bring you so firmly down on one side.

Now possibly one of the most akward moment in tennis history television, McEnroe hugs Federer. So glad that I switched to Star and missed that. John asked him one question, and then he's like, "come in my arms and hug me". They hug. And then Fed leaves.

Let's think a moment about Roger though. This is a turning point in this career in one way or another, no doubt about that.
I still believe he has been somewhat lazy in the last two years, and by that I mean his mindset. He hasn't done as much as he could on the backhand side, and he never even tried proper serve-and-volley. These are the things he has to change for Wimbledon, let alone the other events. But will he do it? Will he care? This loss stings, and there is a possibility that he will pull a Borg within the next 18 months. It may be small, but it's there.

Congratulations to Nadal on coming through in the end. Well done. And congrats to Federer on an amazing last 5 years and winning 5 Wimbledon's in a row. Nadal has become the first men's tennis player since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. It's truly an amazing feat.

This may have been for him what Wimbledon '91 was for Graf had he closed it out. It's pretty far-fetched I know and probably nothing drastic will happen, but still...

He MUST beat Sampras' slam record. MUST. Not that there should be any debate between the two even now, but still. MUST. FEDERER TO WIN THE USO!

I wish they would stop showing Mirka after like, every point. And was that Bush and Gwen Stefani cheering for Roger? Yup. The most TV coverage Him Out Of Bush has had in about a decade, I guess. I forgot Gwen was pregnant AGAIN. Stop making babies and get back in the studio, woman. Mirka gets fatter every year! There were a couple of years when she really wore her plumpness well. We are beyond that, now. Agree that it's a turning point for Roger, and that he's been lazy. I think he was able to rationalise all the clay losses as, you know, "just clay", but...we shall see, I guess! I want him spurred into action because we do need that Sampras record to be broken.

They calculated in his match against Ivanicevic that there was like 11 minutes of play during one of his finals. Yes, REAL TENNIS. Not like what you saw today. Exactly. Because back in the days of wooden racquets and total awesomeness, players were whipping out 130mph aces at will. Sampras and his ilk allow us a glimpse back to the glory days, where beautiful, classic tennis reigned supreme. It's a pity that modern technology and sports medicine have allowed for such a ridiculous plethora of lengthy "rallies" from the baseline. I, for one, am disgusted. Disgusted! Yeah, I'm going to bed now

Where is that "The Rivarly" Dude?! Last year's Wimbledon final was amazing! Probably better sustained play than here, actually. I missed the first two sets this year but most of the fourth set, until the TB, was blah; then the opening few games of the 5th were woeful. Of course, this year had the better climax; after the last rain delay it was pretty incredible. Still recovering from it. Where is my wine.

But why are we talking about Sampras after Nadal and Federer just staged arguably the most dramatic grand slam final in the history of tennis? As for Federer he should be the favorite heading into the 2008 U.S. Open. He's still the best hardcourt player in the world.
