As for Federer he should be the favorite heading into the 2008 U.S. Open. He's still the best hardcourt player in the world. He's still the best grasscourt player in the world too. Didn't stop him from losing Wimbledon.

When Sampras was winning, it was REAL TENNIS, didn't you know? They calculated in his match against Ivanicevic that there was like 11 minutes of play during one of his finals. Yes, REAL TENNIS. Not like what you saw today. Exactly. Because back in the days of wooden racquets and total awesomeness, players were whipping out 130mph aces at will. Sampras and his ilk allow us a glimpse back to the glory days, where beautiful, classic tennis reigned supreme. It's a pity that modern technology and sports medicine have allowed for such a ridiculous plethora of lengthy "rallies" from the baseline. I, for one, am disgusted. Disgusted! Yeah, I'm going to bed now I know, giggles, but it's 99% due to the courts, Fatty.

Ivo will be seeded higher than that.
Announcers will blab for a few seconds about how he's dangerous and nobody wants to play him.
Then lose 1R again to some short guy, like he does every single slam.
I'm derailing the thread. Sorry.
Hey, we're getting close to a slamless #1! Roger is a fluke!

Can't believe what I just read.
Fifth set was woeful. Federer couldn't move and was spraying errors all over the place, Nadal was little better but at least kept the ball in. Those "great rallies" consisted of both players pushing the ball down the middle of the court, scared shitless of missing.
Only reason why it looked good to you was because the player you were rooting for won.
As far as I'm concerned, this fifth set shows where Rafa The GOAT will be taking tennis down to from now on: ugly tennis and the game turned into an endurance contest.

Done before, but still funny. But you could parody the Cult's standard issue style just as easily. Questions without question marks (leelee), occasional use of capitalized sentences for added emphasis (Hurley), silly nicknames, overused one-liners, doomsaying, lolz whatever, ...or something (everyone). Or he could parody Swiss Tony with a fine sociological analysis of The Tennis Cult. I only get all sociological towards janie. The way she lets her hippie prejudices dictate her tennis preferences is begging for it. Towards the rest, I mostly whine about how is it possible for them not to see the light and keep liking players I hate and hating players I like. How indeed.

The tennis wasn't great in the 5th. But, fatigue probably had a part to do with that.
Rafa's style is hard to copy with that amount of talent and effectiveness, so I doubt we'll be seeing it dominate tennis. Also, it lends itself to shorter careers.
Hey, what happened to Rafa's career-threatening injuries.

Only reason why it looked good to you was because the player you were rooting for won. I wanted Federer to win, although I didn't really care all that much. And I still say the first two sets were worse than the sistahs final yesterday, but it was good after that. Yeah, it came down to Roger's big serve all too much but there were a number of rallies that just make you "Oooh, how on Earth did he make it!!", and that's what I watch tennis for. I don't really like Nadal's grinding style, but it does make for fascinating tennis at times. But I agree most people would probably have a different opinion on the match had Roger won.
