But who's saying the match was that great anyway? Who? Patrick John McEnroe said the Nadal/Federer 2008 Wimbledon final is the greatest match he's ever seen. And he's alot of great matches over the years. 1) I meant, here on the tennis cult. 2) Also, I meant, quality-wise. No one is saying it was a high quality match. But it was tight, tense, 5 sets, with a couple of omg points. That is why people were enthousiasted. That's more entertaining than the 7 Sampras finals combined.

I think the '93 final vs. Courier was much better. If Pete didn't get the lucky break in the 4th, he was done. And that was very high quality tennis.
I know we hate Sampras here due to his timely bug serving... but, Fed isn't too different these days on grass.

Besides Patrick McEnroe, John McEnroe said it was the greatest match he's ever seen. I don't buy it. This was a very dramatic and exciting grand slam final but to declare it as the greatest ever is going a bit too far. And to say that this Wimbledon final was better than the classic Borg/McEnroe 1980 Wimbledon final is dubious if you ask me.

Exactly. Because back in the days of wooden racquets and total awesomeness, players were whipping out 130mph aces at will. Sampras and his ilk allow us a glimpse back to the glory days, where beautiful, classic tennis reigned supreme. It's a pity that modern technology and sports medicine have allowed for such a ridiculous plethora of lengthy "rallies" from the baseline. I, for one, am disgusted. Disgusted! Yeah, I'm going to bed now I know, giggles, but it's 99% due to the courts, Fatty. True. Still.

That would be awful. He MUST beat Sampras' slam record. MUST. Not that there should be any debate between the two even now, but still. MUST. FEDERER TO WIN THE USO! Pete Sampras' grand slam record is safe for now. But why are we talking about Sampras after Nadal and Federer just staged arguably the most dramatic grand slam final in the history of tennis? Because we don't like Sampras, Federer is tantalizingly close to his record, and it will be a beautiful day on earth if/when it's broken. Duh.

Only reason why it looked good to you was because the player you were rooting for won. I wanted Federer to win, although I didn't really care all that much. And I still say the first two sets were worse than the sistahs final yesterday, but it was good after that. Yeah, it came down to Roger's big serve all too much but there were a number of rallies that just make you "Oooh, how on Earth did he make it!!", and that's what I watch tennis for. I don't really like Nadal's grinding style, but it does make for fascinating tennis at times. But I agree most people would probably have a different opinion on the match had Roger won. Yes, the first two sets stunk. I complained about that during them. Had Roger won, I would have refused to talk about this for weeks.... at which point I would have acknowledged it was both a great comeback and a great choke. But great, none the less. Not great quality at most times, but meh.

Okay, I have to leave again. Everyone play nice. Don't make Chole delete the board. That would be sad. I could no longer tell friends of mine that I made an internet messageboard for tennis once upon a time and that it's still active. This small tidbit always impresses! I apologize for killing off Corswandt. That was not my intention. I am willing to bear the responsibility and punishments. lol. Did I miss an epic fight in another thread, or did he just delete himself over twisted panties? Just think, kiddies... had he had the Board Delete button like I do, he might have hit that instead

There was no fight. I called him a snob and threatened him with calling him something worse (I don't even why I said that, or what it was supposed to mean), and left. When I came back he had become a guest.

I don't think his exit has anything to do with what some people said yesterday. Since a while, he was expressing his disdain for The Cult on a daily basis; you just knew the dramatic "I'm-deleting-my-username-to-make-sure-people-talk-about-me" was going to happen soon. Too bad because he was a good contributor to the site.
