If Nadal loses this match from two sets up, this might be the first time in about, oh, four years I get emotional about a tennis match and throw remotes or the like.

I did. And so did lots of other people. At least, that's how I remember it. I did, first time I saw him (when he was ranked around 60 or so). The things he had to work on to become a top player were just the serve and the backhand, and he was still in his tender teens. Did you first see him in Toronto, too? Or am I confusing Montreal and Toronto again... whichever time he first came to Canada. Or do you mean when you first saw him on the telly?

I saw him at the Hamburg challenger when he was still Rafael Nadal-Parera! It was an indoor 25K and he played Verdasco in the quarterfinals. Imagine that! I remember Rafael Nadal-Parera! It was a sad day for everybody when his Parera was taken away from him I first saw him practicing with Moya in Toronto... I think that was also the year that I saw him play his first USO. Vicente in the first round, then that Swiss dude that Hingis used to bang in the second round.. and then I had to go home, which worked out really well. Sadly, he had already lost his Parera at this point. Ivo Heuberger!

Oh, if this so much as goes to a fifth set I'm definitely going down to the convenience store to buy a 2 dollar pitcher of beer to cry into. ;D

Ivo Heuberger! Yeah, him. I watched that match with Susan, aka The VamosRafa.com lady. At least, I think she still manages that website, though I could be mistaken. I haven't actually checked it in ages. Regardless, I had won 50 dollars in US Open merchandise on one of those entry scratch-and-win tickets... but the match went so long that it was too late to redeem it. That and I was leaving the next day... so I ended up giving the ticket to some people I had met from Worldcrossing. True story: I currently can't remember any of their names... unfortunate, because it was actually a really good day.

Of course one of my friends is also excited about the match and she may not want to go out until it's over, so I could get suckered into watching it there! And then I won't be able to scream at the TV and throw remotes, because they think I'm an adult or something.

Actually I first saw him on one of my Indian Wells trips, 2004. I saw him lose to Calleri in a fantastic match, and also beat Burgsmuller and Massu. Massu was a retirement, El Vampiro was sick or something.

Burley, that was totally the year that I stayed with Gamma!! Wow, he was playing the Open in 2004? Yeah, I guess the very next year he won RG, so, okay. What I remember about 2004...hmmm, telling Bagle that Roddick was practicing and watching him run to that court, asking you how to pronounce "Ginepri," that Capriati fan that was possibly hitting on me. Oh, Jerome! Seeing Jerome at every match I wanted to see. And hearing how everyone met Griffin except for me

He did become a top ten player when he was 12 years old, remember. You asked me how to pronounce Ginepri? I missed the Capriati fan hitting on you I remember you telling me about it, though. I still hear from Jerome from time to time, via facebook. He likes to keep me updated on which tournaments he's going to in the off chance I find some money in a box and can join. I DID meet Griffin! It was a momentous occasion for everybody except you. I remember you trying to show me the "ghetto" of Long Island and me being thoroughly unimpressed at this display of so-called poverty. I also remember meeting your entire family about an hour after having met you, which was only slightly awkward and hilarious, since they clearly hoped we were doing it.

Okay. Nadal up 2 sets to love on Federer slipped in those awful Wimbledon dirt grass courts and seemed to have hurt his troublesome right knee. I hope this doesn't hurt Nadal's chances of taking the title today. ________________ I was a little worried for Rafael Nadal from Spain for a while there but Rafael Nadal from Spain managed to hold his serve there, saving two break points which was encouraging. But, Rafael Nadal's movement hasn't really looked great since and Rafael Nadal has started making more errors than usual. I hope Roger Federer from Switzerland doesn't luck out here now and win his sixth consecutive "The Championships, Wimbledon" title in a row. But I never say Rafael Nadal from Spain.

Nadal played a challenger in Belgrade some time in early 2003. The organizers were quite hyping him as the future champion but I was pretty skeptical. In fact, I thought he'd be just some scrub so I didn't even go and watch him play when a friend of mine insisted.
I think Gasquet also played that year and reached the final or something.

Oh, I should comment on this match. If Roger stops having his occasional no 1st serve games, he'll win. And stop coming to net. Only use the inside-out FH every single opportunity.
