I'm watching this Sky livestream.
Why are Croft and Rusedski pulling for a championship tie-break in doubles? There would be no scheduling trouble if they just didn't put a doubles match on first. I mean, I'm not saying this was a good match. But if it's not worth watching for three sets (and it isn't) then it's probably not worth watching in the first place.
Still, it's a Slam. Where proper tennis matches should be played.

It probably would. I also thought it would be whiny, but it wasn't. Safina might win this tournament. That would be acceptable. I've been wishing for Safina to win this and end the year number one, since about July, when I decided that no other option would be acceptable. That was before Dementieva won Beijing, though. I guess Demented doing it would be okay, too.

Yeah, either ED or Safina would be fine by me, too. Though I seem to be working toward a total lack of interest in the women's Tour, aside from the lower echelons of it. OTOH I'm really excited about this Murray-JMDP match. I sure hope it won't be a blowout, unless it's JMDP who's doing the blowing out.

I'll take any of the three current semifinalists winning it, as long as it means a Williams sister does not.
Either Jelena or Elena would be great with me...and I'll feel gutted for the loser of that match either way.

I'm not sure h2h are relevant. (Though that both V&S have a winning record against Demented!) The Williams sisters are more vulnerable earlier in the tournament. That's one thing for Demented to beat Serena in the quarter-final, that's another to beat her in the final of the US Open. I guess Demented showed she can win a big match by winning the Olympics though... As for Jankovic, hum... I haven't seen her match against Bammer, but I can't see her beating Venus or Serena with the way she plays ATM. Really I think the most important factor is that it is the final of the US Open; I can't imagine Venus or Serena losing at that stage of the tournament.

Those Williams fans who dismiss the chances of Dementieva types against them in the latter round of Slams are very, very annoying. Because they're right so often. All three other SFists have enough game to beat either Williams, but in the final? I won't be rushing to bet my house on that. I think Demented has the best chance. She beat Serena last year in a final which was huge for her, and now she has the Olympics she seems to be rather relaxed about her tennis - I think caring less about the Slams is actually helping her, because now she's achieved her CHILDHOOD DREAM~~, she has nothing to lose and can just swing away. I mean, the Batty QF...not even a hint that it could be an AO repeat. But I also think that Safina can beat either Williams, if exhaustion doesn't kick in (I didn't see how she was against Pennetta).
I'd be really happy with any of the three winning, and I think they'd all deserve it. I probably like Demented best, but it'd do wonders for Jankovic after hanging around the elite for so long (and I think the WTA would really benefit from having her as a genuine Slam contender). And, insofar as anyone can "deserve" a Slam, Dinara does, for the way she's stepped up and carried the Tour this summer. Plus, winning the same Slam as her brother! It'd be awesome for her!
