Anyway, Tiger Woods' niece will be playing here, and so will Jessica Korda. If Woods makes the cut, that is automatic publicity for the LPGA. If Korda does, it will be a fun tournament for Petr fans like myself.

I was going to say that maybe it's the time for the tour to go global like the WTA and dump many US tournaments but looking at the schedule, it looks like it's been done already.
What's the explanation as to how Korea took over the sport? How is it possible for a relatively small country with so-so weather to produce such a large proportion of the pro female golfers? Is it the prefered career path for young korean girls?

I think Wie flopping hurt, also. Golf Channel well all-in on her with their coverage, rivaling Tigre. Even though she hasn't been a total bust (She's not dropped that much. She's won a few times now, despite her gagging in slams.), the hype was for this hot girl who hits 300 yard drives and will dominate. At least she's still hot.
Korea became great at golf because of Se Ri Pak, she became a huge star there. Their culture is also different, it's normal for parents to strongly push their kids to whatever is likely to be successful, at the cost of just about everything. They have schools that are specifically for golf, all day, and start at a young age. Whereas golf for girls in America is something rich kids try when they're bored.

Yay, Lexi Thompson stopped sucking for once. I'm obligated to root for tall females.

Of course. And I'm obligated to root for short females. But only if they're strong, like Henin or Ochoa. Not that either of them is actually short in real-life terms, but they're short for pro sports.

Wie is rampant today. Please don't shoot 90 again on US Open Sunday.

Wie! Who needs Cheyenne Woods (missed cut) or Gulbis (ditto) when you've got Wie up there, after so many years. The whole leaderboard is fun and I hope to catch some on livestream today after completely missing yesterday.

Wie fading and some androgynous Korean takes the lead out of nowhere. Poor LPGA.

Oh no! And that Choi is so far ahead of everyone else, not even much suspense tomorrow, unless she has a Greg-Norman-Masters level choke. I guess I'm glad I never did turn it on. Wie +6 today. Too bad Jessica Korda couldn't have played a little bit better so she could be paired with Wie! So the defending champion is So Yeon Ryu? Who? I wonder how many US golf fans remember anything about that person or her game. If a few of these players would just stay put at a high level so we could get familiar with them, I really think their nationality wouldn't matter to fans. Yani Tseng became a familiar name but now she's gone down the crapper, too. Meanwhile, Lexi Thompson's doing well.

The only two players who didn't suck were Koreans. Lol. What a round by Choi.

I see that "N.Y. Choi" is winning by 6. Great! Lulz.

She started to fall apart after that, but stopped the rot with a birdie.

Ha, I spoke too soon. She's cute, though! But I don't get the long-sleeved look.

Considering Choi's big lead, that was pretty fun to watch. I'm a new fan of this kid who's good at getting herself out of scrapes.

I'd like to have heard NBC's reaction to how the weekend went.

Maybe if she changes her name to "N.Y.C." and starts adopting a gangsta persona, she will become popular. #tryanything

Announcers made the NYC joke at least a few times in my sparse watching. Don't encourage that.

I'd like to have heard NBC's reaction to how the weekend went. They mentioned a few times that South Koreans had won 4 of the last 5, and 5 of the last 8, US Opens. Clearly they felt it was rong rong. But they tried hard to make the best of it, telling little stories about Choi and her life. But seriously, it would help a lot if we could just see her face! How are fans supposed to feel any connection with a player whose face you can only see in the taped interviews. At least take off the danged cap for the trophy ceremony. But I'm sure the sponsors paying for hat ads would not allow that.

Korean-born New Zealand amateur Lydia Ko, age 15 , is tied for the lead in the Canadian Open at 8 under par. Jessica Korda is tied for 19th, at 1 under. Michelle Wie missed the cut.

And she won it. Youngest-ever winner on the LPGA Tour. First amateur to win since 1969. Nice to see a teenage girl in sports who's not a choker! And just for Brinyi: she's 15, she's Asian, and she wears glasses. Trifecta!

And hopefully the fact that she is a Kiwi and not an Aussie means she has less chance of being annoying.

Hey, Karrie Webb isn't annoying! Neither was Alicia Molik, at least I never thought so.

Considering Choi's big lead, that was pretty fun to watch. I'm a new fan of this kid who's good at getting herself out of scrapes. What a ridiculous post. I've already completely forgotten about this player. At least I should remember Lydia Ko, due to her age and her lack of any relationship to Beier Ko.

Wow! Good for her! I guess. Leena's right, I'm as bad as the average USian at distinguishing between these golfing Koreans who each win big one week and then settle back to merge with the pack. I still think I'll remember Ko's name and age and New Zealandness, but unless she keeps winning, and she's not even a pro yet so why would she, I'm not going to remember anything else about her. PLEASE GET GOOD NOW, KID KORDA. Or even if Yani Tseng, or that Chinese player who won that Major, could find their form again, that would be at least something to hang on to from week to week.

Hey. "The Evian" is now granted official "fifth major" status.
So, that's what the LPGA needs. Five East Asian "major winners" a year, rather than four.
