You are so very wrong, Hurley. You've forgotten that a CHINESE player won the LPGA Championship this year!

China is east enough.

Barbie Paula Creamer has a razor-thin lead right now. Can't imagine how hard the LPGA bosses must be praying, good-vibing, and black-magicking for her to get the win. Even if it's not a major.

Hey. "The Evian" is now granted official "fifth major" status. Wow. I didn't even know what The Evian was when I read this. Too bad its Major status can't be retroactive; then Gulbis would have a major. Anyway the Women's British Open is underway. A couple people playing with Welsh flags are near the top right now. Wales is now its own country? But the English players are playing under a British flag, not the English one. Very confusing!

Huh...I mean in golf they usually represent the part of the UK they are from (i.e. the Northern Ireland brigade). It's probably just ESPN being dumb?

Must be the player's choice, because looking through today's leaderboard (headed by 3 Koreans, natch), I see a couple of English flags as well as some British ones.
I know that some of the native Cornish people, who are trying to revive their own dead Celtic language, would definitely not want to be called English. So maybe the Brit flag is an option for the non-Irish non-Scots non-Welsh anti-English types. There's something for everybody in the UK. I look forward to seeing an Isle of Man flag!

Yes yes, this is all well and good, but what about Netherlands Antilles golfers?

Heh, I had to look that up. I'm sorry to inform you that, according to Wikipedia, the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved in 2010. Yes I said DISSOLVED. So apparently the land is now just mixed in with the ocean water, probably spread all over the globe by now, including the flag.

See my Davis Cup post if you are wondering about my sudden curiosity about AHO.

Yes, the AHO athletes had to walk into the Olympics under the "Non-Affiliated Athletes" flag and were pretty much the most awesome athletes in the parade, jumping around and dancing and such.

I guess if you are going to be non-affiliated, you might as well be happy about it!

Jiyai Shin won the British Open.
So how did the other major-winners of the year fare here? Is there anyone rising to the top like Yani Tseng did for a while?
Let's see:
Sun-Young Yoo, Kraft Nabisco Championship champion: T47 Shanshan Feng, LPGA Championship champion: MISSED CUT Na Yeon Choi, US Open champion: T13
<sigh>

NYC is among the top players now. Feng has been pretty good, also.

I'm glad to hear that because I enjoyed watching those two in the events they won. Creamer played well this week, too (not that I saw any of it, but she finished 3rd), and so did Kerr and Wie, so that's good news for fans who like more of a mix. Too bad Karrie Webb had to fall apart in the last round. My favorite, Jessica Korda, missed the cut. Still haven't seen her play.

Jessica Korda has been rampant lately, in contention most weeks this year. I like her. She's turned into a bit of a Barbie, though. Well, as much as a girl with Petr's looks can.

Aww. But I bet the LPGA sends the blonde USians to a Barbiefying class. Anyway, it's great to hear she's doing well.

How about Johnson coming from nowhere to win last week's event? Wow! Great tournament to watch. Especially the final round.
If Korda doesn't win a major by 2015 I'll be surprised.
Felt bad for Nordqvist having shot -11 in a round only to lose the tourney.

It was a fun tournament.
If it wasn't for the Asian takeover, the LPGA would have some hope with these younger girls rising.

Another major this weekend. Inbee Park won in a playoff. I didn't even know that she won the previous major as well, so that's pretty good, I guess. Not saying she's a Serena, but definitely more than a Majoli.

Jessica Korda's 3 shots off the lead in the US Women's Open, right now; not sure if they've finished their rounds or not. I think Inbee Park's in the lead.

Inbee is more like Serena. She nearly wins every week.

I think so. I don't know why geezers have 5 slams.
So, there's another Korda, Nelly. And Petr is caddying for her. Regina got screen time, also. <3

If only they would start dominating! Petr's tennis was so fun to watch; maybe his kids carry some of those genes. I hope Nelly's a lefty, unlike Jessica. As for Inbee Park, she may look like a Serena now, but didn't Yani Tseng seem to be Serena not long ago? If only someone would just stay up there longer! Heading off to look at the scores now; this event completely got away from me. I asked my mom about it on the phone this afternoon, since she watches all golf, but she said in a grumpy voice that INBEE PARK was ahead AGAIN, and "she wins everything". My mom used to try to get behind these various foreign players, and she'd talk them up to me, but now I wonder if she was faking it the whole time. Oops, found this instead of the leaderboard: www.cbssports.com/golf/blog/eye-on-golf/22575100/womens-us-open-golfer-fires-caddie-midround

Okay, I see the old Serena, Tseng, didn't even make the cut here. Women's golf! With her current lead, Park can play blindfolded tomorrow and still win, or come in 2nd at the worst. Pretty sad when the players tied for 4th are 9 strokes behind the leader. :-P

Jessica firing her caddie mid-round was a running joke the entire broadcast. Oh well, I still like her.
I think Yani's had some injury problems the last year, strange how she fell off a cliff.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but Inbee is the opposite of what the LPGA needs. Asian, kinda chubby, quiet, short hitter... Murrcans don't like this crap.

Yes, that really is a deadly combination. I didn't know she was quiet; that's the nail in the coffin. I wish Shanshan Feng could have been the one to rise up instead of IP; she was outgoing and likeable and I think she could have become popular.
Still, you'd think people would admire the greatness IP is showing this season, if only they knew about it. But the LPGA's in such a deep black hole now. It's a miracle this event is on NBC, but it's not like the guys on Pardon the Interruption or Around the Horn are going to be talking Inbee! Inbee! on Monday. For that to happen, unfortunately, only a Barbie will do.

NBC is really trying to make Inbee's accomplishments seem special thus far today, credit for that. It's not going to stick, though
