Good for Justine for showing up to support her team even though she won't be playing. "Henin-Hardenne had been nominated to play in this semifinal against the United States but withdrew citing exhaustion after Wimbledon. She had been expected to turn up in Ostend but, in consultation with the team, decided to stay away, keeping in contact with the players on the telephone. Justine’s official website said that “her heart will be with them at each point,” but no doubt Belgian fans will hope that she is there in person come September."

Here's what it says on Justine's web site:
Belgium plays the Fed Cup semi-final against the USA this weekend. Justine arrived into Belgium from Monaco on Friday to be there for support in Ostend, but the team (Carl, Kim, Kirsten, Caroline, Justine and Leslie) have decided that in the best interest of ensuring a good sporting environment she should not be present at the tie. There were certain reactions from the public about Justine's decision to not play in the semi-final matches due to exhaustion from 6 weeks of tour tennis that made this compromise unfortunately unfold.

I'm glad I don't live over there. The less I know about this kind of crap, the better.

Italy v. Belgium ...
I'm guessing JHH or Kim or both will not want to play the final, so that gives Italy a shot. But the best result would be the best players play, Schiavone gets in her usual upset when it doesn't count, and Belgium wins 4-1 or 3-2.

Having reached the final, I sure hope both Justine & Kim will play. But Fed Cup scheduling is so crap for the top players. It's fine for the girls who don't reach the 2nd week of Slams, but who cares about them? (Unless they're actual Hidden Worlders of course. )
