This is deScreamo's breakthrough slam, isn't it. Horrible.
No surprise at Petrova losing.
Safin just gets worse and worse.

Just saw that Gulbis lost to Almagro. Has he been past the 2nd round of a tournament this year?

I was so relieved when Maria won. I'm completely behind her this tournament. And Nadia owed us for letting AO '07 happen.

Just saw that Gulbis lost to Almagro. Has he been past the 2nd round of a tournament this year? Maybe not. Almagro and Gulbis were both QFists last year -- one of them was going to take a big hit. Looks like it will be Gulbis. McEnroe thinks he's not motivated because his family is rich? Did I hear that right?

Dokic/Kleybanova through r1.

Dokic/Kleybanova through r1. And we get Dokic-Dementieva tomorrow! It's like going back to 2000, when Dokic was a Wimbledon semifinalist and Lena D a US Open semifinalist. They even faced off in the semifinals at the Olympics, with Lena D going on to secure silver and Dokic losing the bronze to Monica. Wow, women's tennis must really suck if I'm this excited about Dokic-Dementieva. I want both of them to win.

Thumbs up to the gritty and gutty Maria Sharapova on her clutch win over 11th seed Nadejda Petrova. I only wish ESPN2 had been on the air to broadcast the match. How is Masha's new serve? I haven't seen it yet.

Chip is rolling. Another set for Kiefer. Akgul lost 57 in the 3rd, then lost in doubles, too.
What kind of a day is this!

Gulbis is from a v wealthy family, I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up before as an explanation for his poor results this year.
Safin and Ouanna in a 5th set, the BBC feed opts instead to stick with the end of the routine Nadal victory, and then let the commentators babble about nothing.

Sez Wikipedia:
Gulbis comes from a very wealthy family. He first started playing tennis with his grandmother and considers basketball, football and hockey as his favorite sports. His father, Ainārs, is an investment businessman while his mother, Milēna, a theater actress. The second of five children, Gulbis has three sisters (Elīna, Laura and Monika) and a younger brother named Kristaps. Gulbis comes from a sporting family and his grandfather, Alvils, was one of the starting five players on ASK Rīga, the Soviet Union basketball team that won the European Championships. His other grandfather, Uldis Pūcītis, was a popular actor and film director.
Gulbis can speak Latvian, Russian, English and a little German.

I'm so impressed by how Ouanna is keeping it together and continuing to play aggressively, even after losing a couple MPs.

Leena must be thrilled Safarova is playing so well in the first set against Venus.

Yes, see...they're saying Venus wanted to keep playing. But, if so, she's a moron. Recovery is much more important for her. She needs to stop Safarova's momentum.
Williams sisters should ret. the doubles.

Venus wanted to keep playing? That makes no sense, whatsoever.
