I wish the USO would dump crappy matches on their main court too.

I woke up to the sound of an alarm clock that I don't own. Turns out it was the metronomic yelling of a Rezai/de Screamo rally! This I have to watch, at least for a while.
Rezai complained to the tournament referee about the screaming.

MLDB wastes so much energy with her temper fits and her ridiculous full-body COME ON!! screams. She takes every single mannerism I hate in tennis players -- constant fist pumps, prolonged screams, self-dramatics --and takes it to new heights. So I can't stand her, but I'm afraid Leena is right and we're going to be seeing and hearing her a lot more from now on. Then young junior girls will start idolizing and imitating HER and taking these odious things to yet higher heights, and pretty soon there won't be room to play a point between all the other goings-on out there.
The match was entertaining for the open hate between the players w/ in-your-face stares and MLDB screaming her Come Ons at Rezai's mishits and UEs; you don't get that too often in women's matches.
Close her out, Aravane.

I mean, no one needs to imitate her -- she is the carbon copy, as everything she does is directly inspired by Sharapova. But the hype appears warranted -- those groundies are damned impressive. She may not ever serve like Maria, though.
That first set was something to see, I will admit. As strict ball-bashing goes, they were playing at a pretty high level, so that was cool. Then napped again and now don't know where they stand.

Terrible showing from Benesova, a "seed" here. Just couldn't keep the balls in the court. Nice to see Ana waking up, though, and she seemed to enjoy approaching the net, something I didn't see once in Rezai vs Scream Barbie.

Rezai had no trouble in set 2, apparently, though she failed to serve it out at 5-1. I expected better from MLDB, who seems to love 3-setters, but was glad she let me down.

Okay, so Djokovic is through easily. Now what will TC show? Nando? They've also been discussing Ferrero so maybe we'll get that last set, if there is a camera on Court 17. Yeah, Benesova, I mean, I love her, but she is the teeniest mental midget in big matches. It's actually a miracle she held her seed after the Fed Cup debacle threw off her whole (kind of good) year. Great job by Caravane to ignore the stress and pressure and come through. Certainly another Chatrier match awaits her in two days -- against the World #1!

Oh, never mind, Venus should be firing up her match in minutes. So we'll get that. Which means SZAVAY will be on TV! First time I'll have seen her in at least a year.

Not sure what Szavay will have to offer. She has the right game to trouble Vee but after this long period of sucking she might not be ready for the upset.

Saw something unusual this morning, a quote from a top player saying she didn't deserve her win. Of course it was ED, who was only speaking the truth. She's so lovable! If only she could break through and win one of these, for me that would help to offset the proliferation of mindless ballbashing.

I don't expect her to do much better than Benesova did this morning, at least not if Venus is playing the way she has been. But it'll be fun to see if I'm wrong.

I guessed Nando first! And there is no camera on Court 17, so we'll not see any of KFC-Chat.
I said Szavay has a 0% chance in the Main Draw thread. I'll amend it to 1%.

Venus hasn't exactly been stellar so far. Szavay likes hard-hitting opponents and has nice flat strokes. You don't need much more to trouble an off clay-Vee.

Mysterious! Off-day for sure. But doubtless will recover in set 2. Hope Szavay can stay the course.
I thought Venus looked really good for the end of her previous match. But maybe that was just because I think she can't play on clay, and she can, a lot better than a lot of US players.

I'm not sure it's a good thing to win a set so easily. Szavay will need to be careful and stay focused.
