Lee Na and Shriek's 3-shots-tops rallies are...underwhelming, to say the least. Lee Na, though. She must be one of the game's biggest underachievers, right? She's acknowledged as a threat to pretty much everyone on tour, with those bullet groundstrokes, and has beaten the very best, yet she's only won one MM title, made one Slam QF, never been top 15, and never scored any big win on a big stage (I guess FVW at the Olympics is closest). I think I remember LN choking at Wimbledon one year when she was lording it over Saint Kimmie in set 2 after losing the first set. She was up 5-2 30-0! (had to look it up) After that choke, my expectations for her in big matches have always been low.

It doesn't help that Lee Na is injured 13 months out of every year. But it mainly has to do with the 11 games she gives away with unforced errors per match. So if the other girl gets her 12 games first...so sad, too bad.

Susan Boyle lost like, a day ago. She's had more time to be a loser. Give Rafa time. Okay. We'll see if Google News has 7,463 articles about his loss tomorrow. I'm pessimistic that the world cares that much about tennis, even tennis Gods.

I'm pessimistic that the world cares that much about tennis, even tennis Gods. The Susan Boyle situation has more to do about human nature (gender, class, societal expectations) than anything involving Rafa Nadal ever will. She's a zeitgeist moment, it's not worth comparing the two.

haha @ "RobinRogerKohlAndy". Hurley, you're right about that zeitgeist thing. I've never seen ANY topic have that many articles come up on GoogleNews, not even, like, Obama winning the election.

I kind of want to follow Justin Gimelstob's Twitter. I'm sure it is crazy. You can check it out now and then without becoming a debased "follower": twitter.com/justingimelstobHe's DYING, not being able to discuss the big news!

No. Lee Na can be an impressive power player, but she's very streaky. Like most of the pathetic women's tour these days.
People think it's just China that screwed up her career and she came out of nowhere to win 20 straight challengers and Asian IVAs, but she was getting crushed by Elbo types well before that.

Jim Courier's Twitter is probably crazier. I can't bring myself to follow Gimelstob's.
I know what Lee Na's limitations are, but my point was more that there really isn't anyone else who's perceived as such a threat to the top players, on a match-by-match basis, despite having actually accomplished relatively little.

Jim Courier's Twitter is probably crazier. I can't bring myself to follow Gimelstob's. I notice that Justin follows Jim. I might have to join Twitter. Fair enough. I guess she's the only person whose reputation is based solely upon the drubbings she gives in sets, even though she gets them right back in return, and usually two per match. I love a good Lee Na scoreline, like 0-6 6-0 7-5, or 6-1 1-6 6-1

Case in point: she's very close to bageling or breadsticking Ma Sha, and she'll almost definitely still lose the match, as is her custom. I call them scoreLiNas

0-6 6-1 6-3 vs Silliams The tennis fraternity probably all follow each other. Andy Roddick is another one I can't bring myself to follow. I'll stick to reading about how Sabine Lisicki got rained on, and Anne Keothavong's thoughts on reality TV shows.

It's not just sets, though. A lot of the time you see Li's name in a draw, usually unseeded, and you know that upsets will ensue. And I think she'll win this match!

At least Gimelstob and Courier are eccentric, thoughtful, and unwilling to be muzzled. I don't need to hear about Beyonce's cat.

We all think that...and yet, there is no basis for us to think that! It really all depends upon where her hot streak falls. But, as we've noted, it rarely falls close to MP. In fact, it usually is the middle set, a la today. If she sticks to her usual pattern, she's going to get thumped in the decider. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Talking of Beyoncé, her own Twitter has 48,000 followers despite the fact that she has never posted on it, and has said in interviews that she doesn't get it and never will. Lee Na bagels Shriek! ScoreLiNas

Talking of Beyoncé, her own Twitter has 48,000 followers despite the fact that she has never posted on it, and has said in interviews that she doesn't get it and never will. That's funny. I just picked a random celebrity who I know is a raging moron, and there ya go. Well, Nando had break points to serve for the set, and now he's about to let Kolya serve for the match. There goes both his QF streak and my boner.

I think my point, which I've only just worked out, is that Lee Na's early-round giant-killing rarely translates into actual accomplishments. She'll beat Serena or Sweta or whoever in the first couple of rounds, and finish with a respectable QF/SF showing in a non-Slam, losing to like Bepa or Batty.
