(Not all men's players get respect, heh heh. From Diane Pucin of LA Times...)
A tournament spokesman described Davydenko's injury as a "sore thigh."
Afterward, Soderling was asked if he was surprised when Davydenko quit. "Yeah, I was a little surprised," Soderling said. "Because I thought he was moving pretty well."
Davydenko wasn't even able to describe his injury. "Just some muscle problem, like groin muscle," he said. "We don't know yet. I can't explain." Davydenko was asked if he was going to get an X-ray or MRI exam. "Not here," he said. "I going to go home today or tomorrow and I do at home."
And then the inevitable. Davydenko was asked if more attention was paid to his injuries because of the gambling incident.
"I really don't care," he said. "For me, I really don't care now. I do my way and if I have injury, I don't want to finish my match. If I feel like I don't finish, I don't finish. Doesn't matter what happened in Sopot. I don't know what's happening now. I really don't care anymore." "

I think that's a big factor in the drought of young talent. And I don't really know what else. The game has basically changed beyond recognition since the mid-90s. Too physical. Bring back all the fatties. I agree bring back the fatties. ;D

THE FATTIES NEVER LEFT

Speaking of fatties, I hope Oudin's nice run here will inspire other young USians such as Brengle to take the trouble to get into better shape.

Who are the fatties, then?
Serena, alright. Kleybanova - yeah, but she still moves pretty well. 90's fatties didn't move well. Any more? Nowadays only Brit wildcards at Wimby fit the classic type.

A lot of the young British, Canadian and US players are overweight.

And Serena doesn't look fat at all to me. Sometimes, yes, but not lately.
Though everyone looks tubby on my livestream feeds when they spread out the picture to fit my widescreen laptop. The same players suddenly get slender when I switch to a different feed that's not widescreen-shaped. That happened with Bepa and Flavia last night; the instant transformation from fat to fit was remarkable! Zillions of Americans would kill to get their hands on that formula!

Meanwhile, Verdasco knocks out the last American.
US players focus on doing well at the US Open, you know.

Nicole Kidman is there, and she looks like ass.
What is with these famous women marrying gay country singers.

Yeah, she's killing WozDen. And really, there's nothing Wozniacki can do when Kuznetsova is in the zone.

Why is Kuznetsova not #1. She makes major finals. She needs to stop it with the MORONIC losses which make up half of her year.

I think the last, what, seven consecutive MORONIC errors out of nowhere are why.

Lord. 2-6 7-6 6-0. If not tonight, then to Oudin.
So. Quoth the AP: "Isner, who knocked out No. 5 Andy Roddick in the third round with an aggressive serve-and-volley game, hardly used that strategy against Verdasco, an efficient counterpuncher."
Like...I just don't understand.

Quoth usopen.org:
Wozniacki packs a hard-hitting baseline game, and her power from the backcourt means she can match Kuznetsova shot for shot. If both players are on their game, fans will certainly get a treat from watching these two power players grind it out.

That's like the 900th time I've read that Wozniacki is a power player. Just say "she's blond and I want to fuck her but I wouldn't be caught dead actually watching women's tennis even though I'm a tennis writer...you'll probably want to fuck her too, though."

The weird thing is that she's not that outstanding a defender...her speed is great, yes, but her anticipation sucks.

MELANIE OUDIN: Entering the tournament, I just wanted to play well and fight hard. I had a really disappointing loss last year, so I wanted to do better this year. [...]
Q. What was the disappointing loss? MELANIE OUDIN: Last year I lost to a wildcard, Jessica Ward, 7 6, 7 6. It was the first round of the pros here.
Thus ends Jessica Moore's 15 minutes seconds of fame.

Sweta needlessly prolonging matters again WozDen will somehow serve for the second set.

Sweater needs to pretend she is behind on every point, because when she's ahead, she plays safe, and sucks.

I really don't know how Sweta lost that second set...she had two bad patches of errani, but she came back smartly both times and played some very good tennis overall. I mean, I couldn't name a single shot that Wozniacki hit. She came to net a couple of times? A couple of BH DTL winners in the TB? Whereas Sweta just seemed to be constantly teeing off for winners.

Also, WozDen just doesn't have the energy that one associates with counterpunchers - your Schiavones and Cibulkovas and Sugiyamas, constantly scurrying around and in perpetual motion. Wozniacki seems to leech energy from her surroundings.

Wozniacki stole the second set and opened serving first in the third and final set and led 40-15 on her sere then lost 4 straight points and all the momenetum she had. The way Kuznetsova is striking the ball is scary and I don't want Melanie Oudin to play Svetlana in the quarterfinals. It will be a night match as well and I doubt Oudin has ever played a night match before.
