Day 10.

Post by Calico on Sept 9, 2009 13:35:20 GMT -5
Yanina takes the first set 7-5! On a side note I hope Yanina plays Maria Sharapova soon so Maria can look at Yanina and see how a 6' tall plus tennis player should be built. Wickmayer is ripped. She obviously does not slack off in training. Maybe it's time for Maria to get in the weight room and train harder or in a different way because she is being passed by on the WTA Tour. Maria is known to be a hard worker in practice but not in the gym. And Robert Lansdorp has even called Masha lazy when it comes to running and there is nothing more important to a tennis player than running.

"7-5 - WICKMAYER TAKES THE SET! This time Bondarenko's incredible defence cannot quite withstand the pressure and eventually she hits a backhand down the centre of the court just long to hand Wickmayer the first set"
I guess I should have been spelling it "Prophecy" lo these many years.

I love how Pam says she has no idea if Yanina has temperament issues, when 9000 WTA World posters could rattle off at least 2 examples of them.

K-Bond is nervous. She usually goes crazy by now. Hrmph. And Yanina is good. Yanina is good, yes. It's a tough call, this match.

Wickmayer is No 50. K-Bond is No 52. Sigh.

The stab volley that Cat mentioned was a great point.
K-Bond's BH is probably the strongest shot on court, but I fear this may come down to both of Wickmayer's wings being pretty good, while K-Bond's FH is just horrible.

The stab volley that Cat mentioned was a great point. K-Bond's BH is probably the strongest shot on court, but I fear this may come down to both of Wickmayer's wings being pretty good, while K-Bond's FH is just horrible. I think Wickmayer is the more spectacular player and that great backhand stab volley of hers in the first set is an example of that. But Bondarenko is the steadier player with more variety and that should pay off in the end.

Still a pity that Wickmayer hasn't had to beat anyone of note to reach the SF, benefiting from others doing it for her. Still, she is definitely good. K-Bond really wasn't in control towards the end, especially whenever Wickmayer targeted her awful FH.

Great job by Wickmayer winning this huge quarterfinal in straight sets. But I'm said to see Kateryna Bondarenko lose because she's fun to watch as is his sister Alona in the crowd. Wickmayer needs to win a winnable semifinal against Wozniacki or Oudin to make the 2009 U.S. Open final. Wow!
