Quinn finally fired!
***
Maple Leafs fire head coach Pat Quinn
Head coach Pat Quinn has become the first to pay the price for the Toronto Maple Leafs failure to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The team has fired Quinn and assistant coach Rick Ley, four days after the Maple Leafs were officially eliminated from the playoffs.
The Maple Leafs concluded a disappointing 41-33-8 season, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since Quinn took over in 1998-99.
The news comes amid increasing reports that a front office power struggle was developing between general manager John Ferguson Jr. and Quinn.
Quinn, 63, had another year remaining on his contract.
No immediate replacement was named but former NHL coach Paul Maurice, who was hired by Ferguson to caoch the AHL Marlies this past season, is the most likely candidate to take over.

Quinn isn't the only reason they failed this year, but it had to be done.

OLN receive the feeds from CBC. And the feed was lost for about 10 minutes in the 3rd period of Flames/Duck game. At least it was picked up again in OT!!!

No Senator fans here?
The other day, I read Harper supported Ottawa and Calgary. Well, his excuse might be Montreal was not yet in the playoff!
Nah!!!!

Sabres lead 2-0. 16 wins away from a big cup. I hear the junior 18s are still going on if this whole "Stanley Cup" thing doesn't work out for them.

15 wins away.
Too bad Toronto isn't in the playoffs, so the Sabres couldn't beat the tar out of them, like they do every season.

I don't really care about the Oilers, but everybody keeps telling me that I should try. Good for them, I suppose. I wonder how many people died in Edmonton last night as a result of this. I mean that literally, hockey fans are dumb ;D

I don't care about the Oilers, either. I only hate for teams from warm US states to beat Canadian or northern US teams in hockey. Let those states win at swimming or tennis or something; they don't have to hog all the sports! Go Sabres! Plus, I hate all sports teams from the LA area on principal, so I have to learn to love their opponents.

I didn't even know this thread existed. Evgeni Malkin is fabulous but should he have to go back to Russia to honor the contract he signed this summer to play for his Russian team? I'm torn on this. What will stop other Russian players from walking out on their team for more money and fame in the NHL? Malkin signed the contract to play in Russia then broke the contract and signed with the Penguins. It doesn't seem right to me. By the way the new Pittsburgh Penguins are fun to watch. And the main thing I don't like about the new NHL is that there are too many penaties called.
