Sad news from NHL www.nhl.com/news/2006/01/253344.htmlDeputy Commissioner Daly statement regarding USADA release NEW YORK (January 20, 2006) - NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly released the following statement regarding today's announcement by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency pertaining to Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Bryan Berard: "While today's announcement relating to Bryan Berard certainly is disappointing, it does nothing to change the fact that the use of steroids is not a pervasive problem facing the National Hockey League. Mr. Berard is one of hundreds of players who, as a result of being identified as potential Olympic candidates, have been subject to random testing for the past several months. There have been dozens of tests administered to a wide cross-section of our players during this time period and Mr. Berard's is the only positive test of which we are aware. We are confident that with the introduction of our new collectively-bargained Performance Enhancing Substances Program, including the educational, testing and penalty elements that are part of that Program, the use of banned substances by any NHL players will be eradicated in short order. "Mr. Berard's eligibility for play in the National Hockey League is not impacted by this positive drug test. Testing for performance-enhancing substances under the NHL/NHLPA Program began on January 15, 2006. Like all NHL players, Mr. Berard is subject to unannounced testing pursuant to our Program. In the event he were to test positive for a prohibited substance, Mr. Berard would be subject to the mandatory suspension of 20 games for a first offense."

The Goon Squad and the Goon Squad 2+ Mario Lemieux, or maybe the Goon Squad 2 is the US? Mario officially retired again and not likely return. Isn't he 41 or 42? Now Sweden definitely will be the oldest team. I guess our median age is 30+ . Did you know Igor Larionov played a couple of matches for a Swedish third division side. He scored one goal and four assists in two matches.

WOW Igor!!!!
Mario will be 41 in October.
Let's say Sweden will be the most experienced team.
12 players remain from Salt Lake City-02 7 players remain from Nagano-98 3 players remain from Lillehammer-94

As if he's been taking Rogaine (or something like it) ;D You're pretty right on, Becca ;D www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=154231&hubname=The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that goaltender Jose Theodore tested positive for a substance on the WADA banned substance list. Head Team Physician, Dr. David Mulder, discussed details of the test. Theodore tested positive for the hair restoration drug, Propecia, which is not an anabolic steroid but does act as a masking agent. Mulder stated that Theodore has been using the product for "eight to nine years." "He's been taking it on the advice of a dermatologist," Mulder told the assembled media. "And he has had very good success and he feels it has helped hair growth and prevented further loss and he has taken it with my knowledge." Mulder went on to joke that Theodores' thick head of hair should be a good advertisement for Propecia's benefits. Mulder went on to say that Propecia, on its own, does not have any performance-enhancing attributes; it simply grows hair. According to Mulder, Propecia will stay in one's system for more than 30 days. "Jose was unaware, until recently, that Propecia was a banned substance," said Mulder. ''I always like my hair real long and I like to keep it long as long as possible,'' said Theodore, who served as backup in a 3-2 win over Buffalo Thursday as Cristobal Huet made his fifth consecutive start. ''I don't feel I have anything to hide,'' Theodore said. ''It's not something that I got on the black market. It was a prescription from the doctor for eight years, so I don't feel uncomfortable by anything.''

And Phaneuf is just phenomenal scoring 2 goals including the game winning one. Like telling the managment in Team Canada it's your lost that you didn't pick me for Olympics.
