Simon breaks Pony in the second (with a fabulous pass among other things), Pony gets temperamental on his water bottle at the changeover. This is an excellent match.

All signs point to Venus winning Wimbledon this year.

Watching Roddick now, ugh. He seems to accept that he's not good anymore. He's lucky he has Memphis to keep him above the dregs. I'm to the point of accepting the Maria/Serena/Fodder/Venus SF, and ignoring SEWTA. I haven't seen anything that makes me rethink predicting Kvitova for the final at least. She'll manage to find her "can't hit anything in the court" level when it matters.

Rafa wins the set, 8-6 in the tie-break. Somehow I feel like he stole that one, Muller always looked just a bit better, but I'm not complaining.

Paszek leads 3-1 in the 3rd vs Schiavone. Azarenka and Hantu are in the 3rd.

Well, that mixture of being nasty to someone while simultaneously making them intolerably ubiquitous (a sign of love, as we all know) that the British press specialises in. Henmania was the worst. I remember actually opening a bottle of champagne after his last Wimbledon loss. That really did make me laugh out loud. Funniest thing of the day!

Once again ESPN makes excuses for Roddick's whiny/bitchy press conference. EVERY LOSS HE DOES THIS! EVERY TIME! He should just stop because I'm sick of seeing it. Has he lost some clicks on the serve? Is that part of the problem? Anyway, good for Lopez. I forgot that he has twice been a quarterfinalist here. Hopefully one more time this year. I also felt Muller should have taken that first set. He played excellently. Hard to see him coming back now but maybe the delay will help. I guess Tomic gets his first comeback from two sets down, although to do it over two days is cheating. He should beat Soderling for fun. I was disappointed that Ferrer totally rolled today. Harrison couldn't come up with anything, I guess.

Just one more thing about Roddick: it's so tiring now that it's been 10 years of listening to this guy to hear ESPN lap up every word and defend him at every turn. The guy is a jerk! He's not a nice person! There's no reason to like him! Stop!

Women:
Woz has her first tough match against Gajdosijdsfg. Jarmila can pound the ball and if she has a good day I think she'll win. She's been on the verge of a breakthrough - it could happen here. I still give Woz about a 65% chance of prevailing, though.
Disappointing MJMS couldn't do anything against Venus. But I guess it sets up the Venus-Pironkova rematch. Hopefully, Pironkova will earn her THIRD win over Venus in Grand Slam play.
Vera may be entering JJ territory, yes. She began the season fairly well but now ... let's hope hardcourts are kind this summer.
Kuznetsova losing ... I'm so tired of it. I have no idea why she has a (12) next to her name. Two year slump! Who ever heard of it?
Petrova is somehow back from the dead. Easy win today over K-Bond who is similarly back from the dead. Now the Hantuchova-Azarenka winner which looks to be Vika. Nadia will lose that one, I think.
Paszek-Schiavone was one I was vaguely following online ... I think Schiavone was a break up at 4-3 in the second and then melted down. However, just before the delay she cobbled together a hold and a break and now serves at 2-3 in the third. I like Schiavone but Paszek needs this one. Or maybe more accurately, she really does NOT need another Grand Slam loss against a top ten player that she should have won.

He's not a nice person! There's no reason to like him! Stop! I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to work at ESPN if you don't agree to kiss the asses of Roddick and Sharapova. Someone at CNNSI -- was it Wertheim? -- was laughing after RG about how Cliff and Mary Joe were raving about Sharapova's improved serve even as she hit 3 DFs in a row in front of their unseeing eyes. One great thing about having to rely on livestreams is that I never have to listen to announcers I don't like. Another is that I never have to have another Roddick, Williams, or Sharapova match forced on me while more exciting matches are going on elsewhere at the same time.

Eww. And she won, of course. More unraveling ...
How about this odd stat: Woz and Sharapova had the exact same avg. first serve speed in their matches today. Fastest serve speed? That also goes to Woz, 111 to 108 mph.

I was having a nice break from tennis due to rain delay, but suddenly there's Dementieva on my TV. She's the guest in the audience in the entertainment show where they're remembering biggest music hits from Igor Nikolaev. I remember sitting right next to him at the Kremlin Cup. I guess she's there since she featured in his music video some years ago, but still kinda random. She does have free time on her hands I suppose.
Oh, and she's talking now! Nothing interesting tho, but yeah - a flashback.

It used to be that Henman was at a disadvantage because of the rain and poor light, because he was last on centre court and often had to play over two days (at least). Now it's an advantage for Murray because of the roof -- he's always sure to get his match in and then get a day off.

I read a piece the other day which used "the roof came 15 years too late for Date-Krumm" as its angle - playing indoors surely helped her against Venus, but if she'd been able to complete that SF against Graf the same day...
Roof means that I'm being force-fed Murray cuz it's the only match going on. I want Pony and Simon back, goddamnit, I was enjoying that. Anyway, Murray squandered a 0-40 lead and multi-deuce game on Ljubicic's serve, then promptly got broken to love himself.

Franny is very likely to benefit from this rain delay as she readily admitted she did in the Dokic match. She said she was able to talk to her coach and he told her what to do, she went back out and did that, and that that's how she won the match. So I hope he can help her again, because I'm over holding out any hopes for a stellar Paszek career, so why not let Franny, who unlike TP has maximized her career, extend her day in the sun.

He's not a nice person! There's no reason to like him! Stop! I've been saying that for years. Andrew may be a decent person off-court, but he's unquestionably an asshat on. It's not just ESPN either, it's all the Anglo nations. Janie, the livestreams aren't much better. A few of them on ESPN3 can be unabashedly biased, and foreign feeds are usually super homers. I wish every country could copy Australia/NZ, who treats every Great Arn like she's a superstar. Or, no announcers, which I prefer most. I concur with the advantage that top players get with one court having a roof. That's why I don't care for it. Of course, Roddick 2003 USO scheduling can still occur, but it's not as easy to do.
