*sigh* I opened a stream just to see Paszek net a forehand on a set point. 6-3

I don't even know what the : : shortcut words are. I used to keep a list updated and post it at the top of every board, but...let's face it, I have a life now. A boring work-filled life, but a life nonetheless.

I don't even know why I tried watching it. I've only seen errors since I tuned in.

I don't even know what the : : shortcut words are. I think you were looking for : rage : . And rightly so. Anyway they're still listed in one of those top couple of threads. Just looked at the Sabine Appelmans stats: 52 winners! EDIT: smiley codes are in Questions and Concerns. Some don't work any more, of course. Fortunately still works, necessary for SEWTA!

Appelmans would be ranked #3 if she was still active.

Appelmans would be ranked #3 if she was still active. LOL! Yeah, probably so. Judith Wiesner would be #5.

Let us not forget that Novotna would out-Women's Tennis all of them, though.

Let us not forget that Novotna would out-Women's Tennis all of them, though. She made good in the end, though. That day was maybe the first day I experienced really transcendent sporting joy. God, I can't believe Jana was my first favourite player. Setting the blueprint for so many chokers to come

Looks like this is the end for Tamira. But what a great run! Back in the Top 50 Leaving me so underwhelmed by her game in the process though. Her second serve = automatic lost point. And I swear she is under the impression that volleying isn't allowed in tennis. No variety whatsoever. Every type of point that she can't start from neutral on the baseline, she loses.

The first time in a Slam SF for Azza, right? Yep. It's amazing under-achievement that she only now reached this stage in all those year's of SETWA sucktitude.

But she's decent enough that she can post nice runs here and there and maybe be a Top 20 player. And who the hell knows what's going to happen in the SEWTA future at this rate. Keep up a Top 20 ranking and you might fall into a Slam one day.

The first time in a Slam SF for Azza, right? It should have happened vs. S. Williams in Australia 2010. To be fair, her four losses in Slam quarterfinals came against Safina at the French when she was #1, Serena at Wimbledon, Serena again in Australia and future champ Li at the French the other week. She also lost a 4r in Australia to Serena in '09 when she did her familiar 'retirement while winning' routine due to heat illness. In 2010, she lost matches in Paris and New York due to injuries as well, including the fainting at the USO. Wimbledon 2010 she was a victim of Kvitova in round 3 and AO 2011 Li got her in round 4. It's been a combo of bad luck and good opponents that has kept her from reaching the SF more than any lack of performance from her, I think. Now she gets Kvitova in the semis and ... you don't know what might happen with the choke factor but ... I like Petra.

I think she thinks she can...she's won big titles before. It's not completely out of the realm of possibility -- it would just be terrible. I still think she can. I just think it needs to be on a hardcourt. I had my initial burst of Woz enthusiasm this spring when she initially did well on clay, but the reality is she is a hardcourt player. I'm sure she'll have better French/Wimbledons but her chances are really at the HC majors.

I'm sure she'll have better French/Wimbledons but her chances are really at the HC majors. I'm not sure. Inexplicably or not, I think by Woz's IW title she had built up something of an aura. I think the bubble's burst now, though. It's not like it took particularly special opposition to take her out of the last two Slams (Hantuchova on clay? Cibulkova who got double breadsticked in the next round?), she actually did substantially worse than even our low expectations would have predicted. You do wonder whether her stupid schedule killed her chances somewhat...with her game, she can't afford to be even slightly tired or unfocused. I thought she definitely looked tired at RG. But there'll always be the lack of on-court coaching, which turns around so many of her matches, at Slams. Because really, what impressive matches has she ever won at Slams? She has two top 10 wins EVER in Slams (Stupid Sweta, USO '09, and Fran just off the longest match ever at AO '11). And then Maria at last year's USO, which I didn't see. That's it.

Wozniacki is never gonna win a slam, unless she realizes that it's not just another useless WTA tournament randomly implemented in the calendar, that you play just by the way while accidentally being there. There are girls specifically saving themselves, playing according to be at their very best when it matters - at the Slam. But no, our dear Caro goes and gives her best in Brussels! In Track and Field such athlete would never be considered great. Winning some non-important meetings while finishing 17th at the Olympic Games? Come on, if Woz is completely ignorant as to what the priorities in her sport are, she doesn't deserve to be ranked no.1. It's inexcusable that a player ranked no.1 is not even considered a threat going into a slam fortnight, into a tournament every tennis player wants to win. Like someone said - she should just stop playing tennis in order to make someone pass her in the rankings, so she finally stops embarrassing herself. It's painful watching her soulless performances and getting trashed so early by players she can beat at the regular, non-important tournaments.

She made good in the end, though. JUST barely. I think if it wasn't Tauzita in that final bad things might have happened. If only Monica had managed a win in the QF over Zvereva, she would've beaten Tauziat in the SF and then watched Novotna gag away the final on countless occassions to win 0-6, 7-6, 21-19. Or even better, Zvereva closes out Tauziat in straights and takes advantage of a Jana gag! But I was happy for Jana, so boo.

God, I can't believe Jana was my first favourite player. Setting the blueprint for so many chokers to come She was my first favourite too. Years of misery. I stopped believing after the 97 final, but regarded that 1998 final as NID and pretty much stopped following tennis after it due to sense of closure.
