People are writing Twilight slashfic when they could be focusing on this. And then you remember the orgies they're all going back to with each other. And the ball is rolling. Yes I'm all for the swimmers too. These water polo guys are equally nude and wet but much...burlier though. Me likey.

Scandalis result in Men's gym. GB get silver, then Japan launch protest and retake silver, Ukraine get pushed out of medals. Think it was a correct decision, our commentators were hinting at that from the minute they appealed. Really happy for GBR anyway - I saw that team live in Olympic qualifying - but gutted for poor, pretty UKR John Orozco fucked up the vault, fell on his arse and killed the US team. Camera work was so cruel afterwards, he was trying so hard not to cry and the camera just would not leave his face for about a DECADE.

Fucking hell, some really raw drama in the fencing SF.
Korean girl refused to leave the piste for 45 minutes in protest at a timing decision - no idea whether she was wronged but the commentators seemed to think she had a point. Official eventually comes over with bad news and she still refuses to leave, climbs back on the main piste and just stands there with her helmet and sword. Two more officials have to come over and physically usher her off and by this point she's in floods of tears and looks completely broken.
And now she has to come back for the bronze play-off!!!!!

I'm genuinely quite shaken by the raw emotion. I don't think she was being a diva. That was just...raw. No other word for it.

OMG, that 15 year old Lithuanian swimmer won gold! This was fantastic. She was awesome in the interview too. Also, earlier, Agnel carrying on where he left off in the relay and winning gold while Lochte was pushed into 4th. Meanwhile, the distraught Korean fencer actually led for most of the bronze play-off but ended up losing to the Chinese World No 1. So so so gutted for her. Sport is so cruel sometimes.

The head of swimming (or something) already called that 16 year old's performance "unbelievable," in unsubtle terms. Same here?
Baby girls will always have gymnastics, where you get put out to pasture before 20.

No one's casting doubt on Meilutyte - in fact the GBR commentators are all but claiming her as a British medal as she trains in Plymouth.
My swimming nerd friend is pretty sure Ye Shiwen is legit and any suspicion is founded on dubious grounds.

That really is awful. Koreans seem to get involved in a lot of those Olympic controversies, for some reason. There was the gymnastics scandal in 2004, and in Beijing their women's handball team lost in the semis to Norway much like this fencer - Norwegians equalized in the last second, and the Koreans protested furiously that the time had run out, but to no avail. The game went into overtime and Norway won. There was also the shot track skating controversy in 2002, and I'm sure there were a couple of others too.

It really is awful. Here's a German (translated) version of events. They're just excited that Heidemann got their first medal. www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/olympia-2012-degenfechterin-heidemann-gewinnt-a-847286.html "It was a factual decision which has to be accepted as in football. For the South Korean of course it was very unfortunate," said chef de mission Michael Vesper. On another note, it's cool to check out Olympics news coverage from different countries. The BBC was acting like Tom Daley had a medal in the bag today, the Germans were complaining about underperforming athletes while the Japanese were lamenting their embarrassing lack of golds in Judo.

It's true about the German underperformers, in so many events I've noticed a German team quietly coming in 7th or 8th place in the background.
Prior to Shin (oh God I'm still not over it, I need to stop thinking about her going home empty-handed because I can't cope with that), the UKR gymnasts made me tear up most - they thought they'd got bronze but JPN appealed, pushing GBR down to bronze and UKR out of the medals. Of course, while waiting for the decision the commentators went in on the UKR team's lack of funding and how winning a medal would be massively important for them.
There was a bit of a storm today after Tom Daley retweeted an example of the awful shit he got on Twitter after the diving failure. I'd have thought he would have known not to check after his performance. Oh god it's still going on, apparently the police are getting involved :facedesk:

I don't know why those athletes even bother with social networks. It happened also to our shooter who competed on Sunday and was a big favourite to win a medal, which would have incidentally been 100th* medal for Serbia, so there was quite a bit of hype about it. She eventually finished 7th, and idiots started harassing her on Twitter for letting the nation down.
* Among those 99 medals are also medals that various Yugoslavias won, so it's quite ridiculous we're counting all those are ours now.

This social media trend cannot die fast enough.
"Now let's join Monica who's gonna talk about what's going on in the socialympics! lololol" "Thanks Mark. #sportygurl97said on twitter...."
Who the fuck cares...
