Thanks! That's a fun Q draw, despite the bizarre fact that half of the players are seeds. Sad to see that LAV is no more LAV, though. Hard to picture calling her LA. She should have thought of that!

Let's go Bencic! RIP Vecino. I wonder if the WTA is responsible for telling Young Spain to lose half their names as soon as it looks like they might be around for a while

Nightmare draw for Aga. Cakewalk for Ma$ha as ever. If Azza's ankle is still an issue, her opener against Keys might be interesting. Not expecting much in Li's first tournament back, or from Shitra at all, ever.

LAV might want to get her V back: she was booted out by Kiick. Maybe her Vecino is like Samson's hair! Pathetic, wretched loss for Lucic -- 3 games! -- I am so glad I finally gave up on her. In other "upsets" of seeds, Bethanie dumped Doi, Glatch undid Oudin, Savinykh knocked over the Flower Tower, and Peer marched past Puchy. Bencic, however, was unable to crack Coco.

Peer qualified. She seems to be on her way to turning things around. Yet another anemic showing from Coco. I wonder what that sponsor who signed her for a million-dollar contract is thinking now.

Our two shock Q1 junior winners, Siniakova and Kiick, did it again - into their first WTA MDs by beating Glatch and King respectively. Both have been relatively underhyped so far - but both came into Miami straight off 10K titles...good to see some juniors who know how to win against the big girls, anyway. Mono-struck Tomljanovic continues her comeback nicely - a MD win over Pervak and she should be back near the top 200 now. On the other hand, Watson confirms the poor form she's quietly displayed all year by losing to Morita from 6-1 4-1 up Su-Wei won an epic second set TB - 17-15 - over Tsurenko

Also, I want to know if you pronounce Kiick like "kick", with the extra "i" being superfluous, or more like... "keeck".

A TF poster had this scoop on Siniakova: "There was an article about her on tenisportal.cz a few weeks ago. Her father is a Russian businessman who married a Czech woman and they all live in CZ. Katerina's hero is Sharapova and she wants to become the world No. 1 one day."

Mrs. Krumm bagels Jeepers! She's the only SEWTA player worth supporting. Kiick's been homogenized by the great American melting pot to be pronounced as kick, no idea how people before her grandparents pronounced it.

Kiick should maybe play doubles with Daniilidou. Some stuff on TF about how Kiick RTed one of her friends saying Obama supporters should be aborted back in Nov. It seems her mother found people talking about it in her thread and made her sign up to apologise Siniakova took a set off Rampant White Mug but couldn't seal the deal.

LOL @ Duval hitting jackpots and getting two WTA wins within a month - I haven't seen her play, but even the most ardent USian fans on TF seem to think she's a pusher who won't amount to anything. Happy for her! Also happy that Kiick got double bagelled by Keys Battle of the slumpers: Zheng d. Shvedova 75 64 Battle of the qualichildren: Vekic d. Putintseva 76 60 Vesnina, who absolutely stunk at IW, next. Winnable. AMG d. Dulgheru 57 64 76 Typical Dulgheru scoreline though. R2 matches still aren't televised, are they? And we have Keys vs Azarenka, Venus vs Mrs. Krumm... Stephens plays Govortsova - if she can't win that it really is time to ring the alarm. Wonder if the Pliskova servebot can do anything against Woz? Hang on, I just noticed that Cornet has somehow hauled herself up to the (32) seed position
