This entire day is skippable.
For SHAME if Azarenka loses to Hantuchova.
Pennetta or Vinci in the semi? Flavia by a hair?

I like all the matches. Well, except Dani vs Azza, which at best, will be a replay of Ana vs Azza. And maybe not Robredo vs Rafa; Tommy's run is over. But Gasquet vs Fit Dave could be good -- if Wuss was able to recover from the unfamiliar exertion of the other day. Also, there are some interesting Junior match ups. But thankfully no Jr r3 matches on AA, as I am sorry to recall happened with Playboy model Ashley Harkleroad.

FLAVIAAAAAA! Such a cool-headed lob on MP. A year after wrist surgery, after losing three Slam QFs...she only got into the MD when Putintseva withdrew. First Slam SF, so happy for her

Yeah, the perfect lob was such a perfect ending! Didn't know about the wrist surgery or the narrow escape from qualies but they make her success at age 31 even more satisfying.
Just wish she hadn't thanked her "team" quite yet, as if the tournament were over -- is she satisfied with a semi?

Why is there so much love for Pennetta? To me she's like a Melzer/Kohlschreiber/AMG/Kirilenko/Dulko type of player. An eternal draw filler that you never pay any attention to. And her game is so basic - everything good and textbook-like, but nothing exceptional. She's a Dulko.
Good for her I guess.

So, how does Wussquet blow this match In spectacular fashion, if at all. 2 sets up now. I just can't with Gasquet. Even if he doesn't manage to find a way to lose this, one good tournament does not undo years of being a gutless puke.

I understand your confusion - people here seem to like the most random players. It is a cult, after all - it needn't make any sense. If it's any consolation, I don't actually heart Panetta. I was just rooting for her over Vinci because when I don't care about the result of a match, I root for whichever one I think cleans up better.

For her to reach this new career milestone at age 31 is pretty great. And then there's this fond memory: straightsets.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/02/pennetta-defeats-sharapova/?_r=0
