No. I don't think we'd get along well. She's so bubbly and happy... and I'm so miserable and mean.

But maybe Lena needs some of your toughness Leena. Lena might be too nice a girl and that can be a problem in the rough and tough world of women's tennis. But the main thing is for Lena to be healthy and happy and return to the WTA Tour. I hope she can over come what's ailing her. To me Bovina could have done what Dementieva and petrova have done on the WTA Tour.
P.S. - Leena, I miss your rapid fire exchanges with GL at WTA World. Those were fun to read ;D and haven't been replaced by any other poster.
P.P.S. - Do you still have Mimi?

The difference with Demented and Nadejda are that they work hard. Elena does not. She's far from being in the best shape possible. That's why she gets injured. That's why she loses matches, and inferior players like Demented win titles and stuff. Plus, I'd love Elena lots more if she worked hard to get her body like Demented's. Yum.
Andrew tells me how awful GL is. I don't think I'd be able to tolerate her anymore.
Yes, I still have Mimi. She's sleeping on my monitor, as I type.

I thought your Elena (Bovina) had a reputation as a hard worker. I remember reading a 1998 New York Times article on how Nick Bollettieri had a hard time getting Elena off the practice courts because she was training so hard. And when he tried to get Elena to leave the court her mother would cry because she thought Elena needed to work harder. Maybe Bovina has subconsciously become a slacker of sorts because she trained so hard as a kid. And all the injuries she's had has had to slow down her training and developement. How about Petrova beating Mauresmo in the Doha final? Nadia's game is really coming on. And I doubt your very attractive Lena would be happy you prefer Dementieva's physique to hers. But she would probably understand;) Leena, I think you would still be able to tolerate and get along with GL who as always contributes to Russian Roulette by posting alot of articles and photos in RR. But she's very critical of Maria Sharapova and constantly questions how Russian Maria is which upsets some people in Russian Roulette. It's nice to know Mimi is healthy and happy.

"And when he tried to get Elena to leave the court her mother would cry because she thought Elena needed to work harder." Oh god, these Russian mothers are awful! Maybe it's just as well that Sharapova's mom is seemingly not allowed out of the house. Of course she has that looneytunes Dad as a mad-Russian-mom replacement.

Yes, Margarita is one of the worse tennis mothers out there. She's not on the level of Yuri Sharapov or Hellene Irvin, but she's close. But, I do understand that she needed to force Elena to work harder sometimes. Elena probably has focus issues, and she's never had that love for tennis like other players do.

I had no idea that EB had one of those over-involved moms -- maybe long ago I knew something about her, but I forgot about her entirely. But that's probably only because EB has always stayed pretty much under the radar in the US, so I never knew much about her at all, much less about her family ties. I only remember Nick B's early remarks that his young pupil EB (15 yrs old at the time) was "better than Kournikova". Which I suppose was his idea of a compliment at that time, but after EB, he started saying the very same thing about each new pupil in turn. I guess now he must be calling his newest kids "better than Sharapova" . Anyway, I hope the next time Giant Barbie surfaces, she won't be so skinny.

I think Nick says those overly positive things about all his players.
And it's not that Elena is too skinny. It's that she isn't muscular, or in any sort of good shape. That's always been apparent as she often gets tired in third sets. And has a flabby tummy, despite weighing little for her height. To play world-level tennis, she needs to be perfect. Like Demented.

Elena is already nearly retired. We don't need Hellene's ideals to finish her off, like with Marishka.

Elena doesn't need moral support. Look at New Haven. The degenerate fans were always against her. But, our Elena, she overcomes the odds.

Well Leena, if Elena Bovina doesn't love tennis which you say is the case it's hard to imagine her caring enough to give 100% of her physical and emotional effort to make a comeback. The same thing happened with Anna Kournikova. She unlike Bovina did love tennis. But once Anna lost her love for tennis and suffered several injuries her desire waned as did her attempts to return to the WTA Tour. Hopefully Bovina will suprise us all and is off plotting a comeback to the WTA Tour this spring or summer.

Elena will come back, because she has no better options. Where else will she make a yearly 6-figure income? I don't think she finished high school, or anything like that, since she went to Bollitieri's at 13.
She only got into tennis because her sister played. She started late, and probably got pressure on her to play since they saw she was a giant.
Oh well. Elena will be back eventually. And winning the amount she used to within a couple months.

Or, end up like Daja.

Don't joke. Her and Daja used to play doubles. But, I doubt it's the same situation here. Supposedly, Daja quit because she got addicted to the boys.

Hingis was also addicted to boys as a teenager, and it didn't seem to hurt her too much. The boys' careers all suffered, though. ;D

I hope whatever Elena is doing she is happy. But I get the feeling most tennis players aren't happy. I guess it's possible she has a boyfriend and isn't too interested in tennis right now. Janie, are you insinuating that sweet Martina had a venomous effect on her boyfriends careers?

I would think Bovina seeing Dementieva do so well would motivate her to return to the WTA Tour. Because Bovina has better technique on her shots than Dementieva does. Especially the serve. Bovina has the game to be a top ten player. I just hope Lena Bovina can overcome whatever ails her to return to the WTA Tour. But things aren't looking good for Lena's return in the near future.

Demented was doing well 6 years ago. And Bovina was playing doubles with her then. If Elena didn't get it like 5 years ago, she's not going to now.

ED is really nicely balanced in her technique on both wings. I really don't see a technique advantage for Bovina, except for the serve. That's not saying much because everyone has that over ED except for Coria.

I'd say Bovina's backhand is more technically sound. Demented stabs at hers too often, which leads to shanks. For the forehand, Demented's is better. Bovina has an unnecessary windup on it.
