Finally Romina holds! What a battle. EB still has a break, but can she hold on against these dropshots?

5-4, Elena will try to serve it out ... she's trying hard to play really aggressively. I always think her ball is definitely going out because of how awkward she looks, but often it does go in.
COME ON, KID!

she did it! She won on her first MP --- with an ACE! Commentators loved this match, "une belle finale" -- someone's interviewing her! I don't think in French, though.

This match was better than a lot of the women's matches we saw at the AO. And I learned EB has no intention of retiring. She was passionate out there! She really, really wants to play this game. So, best of luck to her. They're showing a trophy ceremony! La ville de Belfort is very excited about their tournament, it seems.

There are more people there than most WTA finals. Thanks for the link, that was fun.

Elena may well retire before the presentation ends.

Yeah, it was! Good old TF. Someone in the Belfort thread there posted the link. 20 different really important men have to make speeches before they give out the trophy.

Well, I was hoping to actually see Elena with a trophy. But I can't wait for the next 40 important Belfort bigwigs to speak, so tant pis pour moi.
Wait, here comes Romina! Someone woke her up!

Yes, she won a 25K in France. Singles and doubles. And the way she looked, I think retirement is a million miles away from her mind, so we'd better get used to her plugging away for years like a slightly more successful Petra Rampre. I had completely forgotten what her game is like and wasn't even sure I'd still find myself rooting for her after all these years, especially when she was playing against such a fun player to watch. But it looked like it meant so much to her! I think that's why I found myself cheering her on, not from an old habit dating back to 2001, and definitely not because her game is so special. By the way, from certain angles, Elena looks like she could be Petrova's slim sister. She's got great posture for a tall woman; it was Oprandi who was slumping around like Davenport. I sure wish more challengers would have livestream coverage like that, though I could do without the droning of the bureaucrats. Of course, most challenger matches are

I love watching the few 25k's online, especially qualies that have girls with glaring weaknesses.
I'm not doing this again with Elena. Unless she gets ranked high enough to be on TV sometimes.

EB has has qualified for the MD in the WTA event in Kuala Lumpur. Two of her qualy matches went 3 sets, but she got through. She seems to be physically less fragile lately.

For me, it's a lot less fun hoping people will retire once you see how terribly sad that idea is making them. Elena Bovina Has lost Sadly very much poor kid, stranded in Tashkent, all for 1 ranking point. I hope Akgul's mom will fix her a good meal at least!
