Well, it is good to learn from Karl that Elena is playing better. At least she is not getting worse and worse like, say, Jelena Dokic. It's also good that Elena has been through (too many of) these down cycles before, because she knows they do end eventually, and that she can come out of this latest slump better than ever. Why not? I wish we knew what was behind her coaching change. Maybe that started the problem.

Obata will not be an easy match... she just beat Dokic 6-3 6-1... and I always thought she was a better player than Shinobu. As far as her coach... Lena was seen yelling at him a few weeks ago. I don't know anything behind it... but Joe was always very hard on her... and I don't know if she needs that anymore. Lena's enough of a nutcase as it is... she doesn't need her coach to be one. I hope her leg injury earlier this year, and the effects of mono are finally going away now though... then Lena just needs her confidence back, and hopefully 1 good week will bring that back. I know Lena will start playing well again.

I am surprised at how much Elena Bovina has struggles this year. I hope Elena gets it together. A second round matchup against "The Russian Lynx" Maria Sharapova is a match I would love to see! There would be alot of passion and emotion in that match. But both Elena and Maria have to win tough first round matches first.

I am sure after her last match against Tanasugarn if she steps up a gear a second round clash with Maria who I give the edge on Ashley will be on the cards.

Yes, her last match was a huge improvement over her previous one. I would love to see a maria-Elena match, so both ladies, please win round 1!

Yeah Janie, both did. They played each other in the 2nd round. Did you have a nice holiday, Janie?

Nobody here even mentions Lena winning New Haven.
Ok, then.

Oh, we mentioned it. It was hardly above a whisper though which is probably why you didn't notice ;D

Soon enough, Bovina will be more popular than Masha.
And you'll be jealous of her, and hate her like Andy.
Thanks.

Did you have a nice holiday, Janie? Yes, I think I did! Thanks for asking, Karl. Sorry it took me 17 months to reply. ;D

I raise this thread from the dead.
Lena plays Marta in the 2r of Miami. Who will win this exciting matchup?

I think EB can take out Nadya. Haven't seen her play yet (of course), but looking at the stats in her match today, I like seeing that she was winning a lot of points at the net. EB plays best when she plays this way, and I hope she can keep it up.
Mentally, I have no idea which one is the tougher player. Both have had some great wins and some suspect falterings. Could be interesting out there.

Nadia's stats haven't been that great so far at RG.
Many UE's... especially since her matches have been so short.
Lena's got a chance here... but she's going to need to play TWO solid sets of tennis. Not just the 1st set, like she has in all 3 matches so far.

5-3 Serve out the set here, Elena. Please don't let her back in it. I do not need another match like Mary's! My brain couldn't take it!

5-6 from, I believe, 5-2
Okay, it has obviously all gone south now for EB. Have turned off the scoreboard to save myself more cyber frustration. But don't give up, Elena.

I don't care anymore.
I don't see how it's possible for a player to injure every part of her body while TRAINING.
Shoulder, now. Previously left wrist, right wrist, neck, right elbow, stomach, back, left knee, right knee, left ankle, right foot, left foot... all different injuries. In less than 5 years.
It's just ridiculous... is part of her training to jump off buildings? Run into walls? Fight large Russian men?
It's sadly obvious now that Bovina will never be able to play a full year... let alone 3 straight months without getting another of these "injuries".

So EB is the new Mary Pierce, it seems. But hey, look what Mary did this year in her injury-free window of opportunity. Scanning that list, it looks like Elena still has a left elbow and a right ankle to injure, if she wants to snag the Injury Grand Slam.

It was different with Mary. Her "injuries" were probably excuses for:
"I'm too fat to even attempt playing, nor try fitting into proper tennis attire."
"I'm crazy. Fuck off."
"I need to fuck Roberto. I have a life outside of tennis."
Bovina has none of these issues. Except #3... she enjoys the rave scene.

Well it's a shame about Wimbledon. I noticed someone on the Tennis Week message board was picking her to win it! I hope she looks at that board, she might get a kick out of that.

Serena, Bovina Withdraw From Stanford By Tennis Week 07/20/2005
Tennis fans hoping to see Serena Williams in action may have to wait for the debut of her reality show. The sixth-ranked Williams withdrew from the Bank of the West Classic due to a left ankle injury she originally sustained at Amelia Island in April. Seventeenth-ranked Russian Elena Bovina also pulled out of the $585,000 event due to a right shoulder injury that forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon.

Shocking.
I'll also be shocked when we're injured for San Diego.

Poor Elena. When will the injuries stop? Hopefully she's be ready to defend her New Haven title the week before the U.S. Open.

Let's review what Lena has done to defend her titles.
2003 Warsaw - "Injured". 2003 Quebec - "Injured".
End.
