What comeback will she be on when we play again this summer. 10th? 123423th?

I don't know. Before now, I've been thinking of her as a Mary Pierce, who comes back from the dead and reaches a Slam final. In EB's case, that would mean returning to the top 20 or so. But now it's starting to dawn on me that she's maybe more of a Guga, a Chanda Rubin, a Babs Schwartz. They want to come back and they keep trying, but it can't happen. Of course I hope I'm wrong, but the signs aren't good.

Anyway, she's still on the lists for Hammond and Pelham the next two weeks, so we'll find out soon enough how bad this latest reversal is.

It's similar to Guga and his aged hip. But, at least Guga would give an effort in his 2nd matches while eventually getting bageled. We just quit. If we can't last for a single tournament, then why keep trying.

Giant Barbie defies all predictions of imminent death and will play wild card Chelsey Gullickson in Hammond Qr1.

I don't even want to say how the match with Chelsey went. Let's just say that our reluctant conclusion that Elena's latest comeback is of the Guga school was not disproven today.

At least Chelsey went on to qualify, and will probably win her 1r match. Hopefully, she doesn't end up a waste like her chubby sister.
Elena is still in the Pelham, Alabama 25k for next week.

She has started entering some European events, too.

Elena in Pelham: As 4th seed in qualies, Giant Barbie gets a bye for qr1, then plays the winner of Ukrainian Anastasia Kharchenko, rank 744, versus Erin Carol Stephens, an unranked USian. If she gets past that formidable obstacle, she would probably face Mirjana Lucic's nemesis, 12th seed Alexandra Panova. Speaking of Lucic, she's here, too, with her dismal new post-IW ranking of 713. Lucic should have an easy start with the unranked US WC she drew for qr1, but then she gets 2nd seed Tatishvili. The whole q draw is a fun one, with plenty of fabled bagel girls on hand, such as Amy Dillingham, Subbi Sundaram, and Dewonder Davis, to complement the Once-Proud contingent of Bovina, Lucic, and Lindsay Lee. Canadians, Asians, South Americans and of course East Europeans, including "lost my H" Anna Orlik , are also on hand to thrill and delight the Pelhamites. There's even a Bahamian and a Finn! Dang, I wish I could go.

Bovina def Kharchenko 6-2 5-7 7-6(3) Next up, Alexandra Panova, who lost a total of 1 game in her first 2 matches! :red:

Kharchenko was 10-0 before that match!
But, those matches were all from 10k's in Nigeria... and she was a glorified bagel girl before that.
Elena having that much trouble with that is very not good. Panova should win easily.

Hey, any time Elena goes 3 sets, and doesn't have to retire, is a good match right now.
But having played such a long match yesterday, I won't be surprised if she retires or gets bagelled in the 2nd set today -- not that Panova is such a great player, but she can keep the ball inside the lines, and that's trouble for players like Lucic and EB right now. They need to play error queens to have a real chance.

Panova def. Bovina 64 62 -- no retirement!

Yay!
So, Elena is suffering through Morton's Neuroma.
Which is only significant because the most famous person with that was Dorothy Zbornak! However, I think Elena would better suited as Rose Nylund.

Elena remains in the list for Jackson, MS next week.
This field is a bit weaker, so she might be able to sneak into a MD spot.

What?? What the heck is Morton's Neuroma?
The week after Jackson she's entered in the Bari, Italy 25K. She chose that one over the Saint-Malo, France 100K+H for some reason. Even though she would have made the qualy field there, she w/d from that one today.

It's a foot injury where nerves are messed up, pain and numbness in your toes and upper foot. And playing only makes it worse. Probably similar to the injury Myskina has.

Wow. I thought all this time it was her shoulder that was the problem.
Well maybe she's had surgery for that Morton's thing. If it wasn't better, I can't imagine she'd be attempting a comeback.

Farina Elia and Davenport both had that injury, and both required surgery. I think Lindsay was even on crutches for a few weeks. This was back at the end of 2003.

Sorry, bub. Leach was healthy for 2003 indoor season.
Oh, the days when we were a top 20 player. Won lots of good matches. Then, we got injured a lot. Then, we can't even beat players ranked below 800.
I'm a tortured tennis soul. Elena is cruel.

The weakest qualy field in the history of 25Ks -- players in the 700's are seeded, and even some bagel girls have byes -- and EB is not in Jackson to take advantage. :red: I'd like to think, Oh, well, maybe she got bumped up to the MD -- but unless she received a late WC, that's not the case, because a player ranked above her, Carmen Klaschka, is the top seed in qualies. EB would have been 2nd seed. Where is she?

Not in Jackson MD.
Which makes sense if she still plans on playing the 25k in Italy, next week.
But, questionable decision. Considering it's clay, and the Euro fields are stronger. And there's a bunch of the dreadful Muller types there.

Well that's what counts! I've never seen that, actually. I should record it, now that we've got a DVR thing. Giant Barbie is such an optimist, though. I see she has signed up for a couple of good European challengers the week after Bari. She will never say die, our giant one!

Elena looks great doing yoga. Her legs are like 20 feet long. Yoga prevents her from getting injuries!
Then, she hits for a while with whoever her hippie coach was then. They're wearing jackets. I didn't know it got that cold in Barcelona.
Then, we see her exercising.
Then, she eats sushi with a friend. With many awkward moments of silence. And, it's over.
