Safin, Safin, Safin...you used to be my favourite player. I couldn't care less, these days. I'm not sure who my favourites are any more - Henin, probably, on the women's side (the first time ever that my fave hasn't been an insane mental choking headcase). Djokovic on the men's? Safin was my favourite too. Well, he still is. Kinda. Alongwith, Ferrero and Hewitt. We cheer for Fat Dave as well on ocassion. Ancic is cool. But my ultimate favourite is Wawrinka. So cool. All my favs do well as teens and then fade into oblivion (See: Hingis. Seles.)

Safarova??? WTF? She's done pretty much nothing since Wimbledon but getting thrashed by Castano?!
Oh, the future #1 Szavay lost. Good.

Well, faded into oblivion was an incorrect choice of words for Seles, but she never did come close to achieving the success she had as a teen. Her career in her 20s pales in comparison to what she accomplished as a teenager. And look at how both Hingis and Seles retired. Bad losses right before the last match and then it's over.

I'm excited to see him try to continue through his super hard draw. Ferrer would be tougher for him than Nalbandian.

Considering how terribly Castano has been playing (a loss to ancient doubles specialist Uhlirova and 0-6 0-6 to Cirstea!!!), that Lucie loss is truly unforgivable. I can't even believe it.

Wow, short hair! Good hair! You're right. At last! And yeah, impressive scoreline over Kiefer. Lucie withdrew from Sydney last week; she absolutely has to still be injured. No way does she lose like that to terrible Castano otherwise.

Told ya Safarova and Szavay would suck. Szavay is better than her latest scores - but probably not much better than her current ranking. Safarova's injury prone and bound to a limited schedule, and with a ranking system that favours hogging, that will always be a big problem.
Fed was looking very sharp for his early round standards.
Other than that, I FFWD a lot since, unlike yesterday, ES showed very little of the women. I didn't even hear that Marion and Safina were out until I checked the draw at the website just now. Lots of weird scores on the women's side.

Is there an update on Petkovic?
Just watching now, and I hope she didn't tear the ACL...

No, I can't be a fan of a tall lass that serves like she does.
But, I wish her well.

Sad to think that Capriati's last pro match could be an 0 and 1 loss to Zvonareva. Jeez.
