And Rampre won 64 57 75. With the prize money she's getting at these tournaments she might as well afford travelling to AUS Open next year. WOW! I'm so excited for Petra. Maybe she can buy a new car someday if she keeps doing so well! The old battered one I saw her get into at the Allentown 25K a few years ago looked like it had 200K miles on it, and it probably actually had more, since she plays constantly drives to every event.

I've decided to ditch Namigata and Iijima due to not winning much and being generally no good at tennis - and decided to closely follow Chihiro Takayama who wiped out a couple of home players in the Q draw, losing a grand number of 7 games in 3 matches. So here you've got it, Torun draw! Torun, Poland, 50k + H(1)Anastasia Pivovarova (RUS) def. Irina Buryachok (UKR) 63 60 Paula Ormaechea (ARG) def. Reka-Luca Jani (HUN) 67(8) 62 61 Ekaterina Ivanova (RUS) def. (WC)Katarzyna Kawa (POL) 63 62 (8)Madalina Gojnea (ROU) def. Karolina Pliskova (CZE) 16 76(4) 63 (4)Stephanie Foretz Gacon (FRA) def. I also noticed this draw includes Ormaechea and many ROUs, so I think Janie might like it too, haha.

Ormaechea is not only there, she won a match! Usually if I see a draw that includes Beygelzimer and Bychkova it makes my eyes glaze over, but you're right, there are bright spots in there, too, especially Gojnea and of course Foretz. I think I'll jump on your Takayama bandwagon, too.

Surprised Svitolina lost to Han. Never mind, Xinyun needs points badly this year.

I think I'll jump on your Takayama bandwagon, too. I know how that feels! Beygelzimer's been stuck in Hidden World since 1990 and it really gets boring seeing someone playing these kind of tournaments over and over again.

The Italian and Latin American 10Ks are exactly like that for me. The same players over and over again who never, ever progress beyond that level. Takayama beat Dentoni

Takayama! New fave for the masses! (or at least for the mass of 3-5 people who look at this thread Thanks for pointing her out to us, Boreas. It reminds me of when Brinyi brought our attention to 15-year-old Rafael Nadal.

Yup, we're visionaries, predicting Takayama to become what Nadal is to ATP;D she has a current ranking of 1067, without the points from Lenzerheide added. It's funny how she actually did play according to the rule book of the Japanese pros. Playing weak 10k futures in Japan and SE Asia, losing in the 1st or 2nd round. But her mini-breakthrough comes on the clay courts of Europe. Kind of weird - aged 15, in 2006, she received a QWC for Budapest WTA and lost to U.Radwanska 4 and 0. She literally disappeared for the next couple of years, mostly losing in the qualies of just about every tournament she entered. Her most prominents scalps from the previous years are Koehler, Moulton Levy, Alexis King and Iijima

I'm guessing her family is loaded then? She's travelled a lot without many results, doesn't seem to have travelled with other Japanese girls, surely only £££ can explain that Budapest QWC (which I remember, actually!).
The weird thing is that I do recall her name popping up in a fair few draws, usually as an early loser, so this breakthrough out of nowhere is completely unexpected.

And then there's the rest of the Torun event, the non-Takayama portion, where amazing things are happening: - the Argie shocks the world by clobbering #1, an evil RUS;
- FOUR(!!!!) ROUs march on, and
- Beygelzimer and Bychkova both head for the exits, saving eyes across the globe from further glazing over this week (except if they look too long at the remaining Cuneo field)

Oh poor Patricia Mayr defeated herself yesterday Pivovarova was pretty harmless in all the matches I've seen of her - might have to do something with the fact that she was losing badly in all of them. Great win for the Argie, anyway!

Some Hidden World winners of the week, and my opinions Tatishvili captured Cuneo. Gallovits took Torun. boring resurgent Daniiiiilidou took the prize in Pozoblanco (50K) Brazilian Teliana Pereira dominated in Denain (25) Babos stormed through Stuttgart (25). neutral Brinyi-fave Nanda Alves won a 10K in, where else, Brazil

I was quite surprised to see Teliana Pereira's CHR inside the top 200, achieved a few years ago. Somehow I cannot recall her being in any GS qualies.
Am very pleased with her getting back on track!

The married bunch of girls are having a solid week in Biarritz. In the QF we can find - Iryna Bremond, Patricia M -Achleitner, Stephanie F-Gacon and Edina G-Hall!
Non married Mandy Minella surprisingly defeated Soler Espinosa.
Yeah, Brinyi, I just realized there are no challengers in Japan, so the higher ranked girls are probably having a few spare weeks to travel somewhere else, too.

Also, I should note that little Lauren Davis of meager AO fame this year won a $10k at one of my old tennis clubs.
