I wouldn't say that's the case anymore. Golf is the sport to play today. You can still make a good chunk of money to like the Top 500 in the rankings. And top 200 is near $1 mil a year. For a sport that causes no harm to your body.

Watching the 2007 U.S. Open is just not the same for me without the peoples champion Phil Mickelson in the mix. I'm rooting for Baddley. I badly want Baddley to win! ;D He's a good guy and a fine young golfer. But I won't be crushed if Woods wins. And I hope the peoples choice Bubba Watson doesn't fade in the final round the way the 2005 U.S. Open peoples choice Jason Gore did in the final round.

Badds died on the 1st hole. Lolz.
Stop with Phil. I hate him. A lot.

Ha, what did they do, have a Phil tribute? "My poor widdle sore wrist! But I played anyway!! Can you believe how heroic that was?"

But, Philly's wrist is the story of the US Open!
Grrr, I hated that... I wanted 1000 mentions of his glorious performance last year. Fake injury!

Well, he's in with a 69, +5. Tiger will have to pick up a shot to get into the playoff.

Come on, Angel! Win it from the clubhouse, like Morgan Pressl. Best way to win.

Well. it's not really like Pressel, where she put up an okay score and everyone else CHOKED. Angel put up a GREAT score and everyone else -- and by this I mean Tiger -- is playing well, just not well enough.
Okay. Tiger has one putt for the playoff. Also, dude, he's been lifting like crazy. Tiger is more jacked than I've ever seen him. He'd almost be really hot if he wasn't such an anal fungus.

Cabrero is the nearest thing to Trevino that golf is ever going to see. to quote bizarro superman: Me so happy!

WOOHOO, SPEAKING SPANISH!!! Look at his smile. I love this bear-like Angel. "First time a translator has been used in the presentation of this trophy."

Angel isn't like Trevino, except for being Latino. I'm very please Angel won. I always pull for the "really good, yet completely overlooked because he usually plays outside the USians".

Angel is shaped very much like Trevino. They've both got the little pot belly.

True. Although, Lee wasn't that big in his early days. All Senior players get fat. Except Hale Irwin, who will be fit until he's 100.

Angel is a hideous-looking man, but him winning would be a long overdue "fuck you" to the Anglophone-centric professional golf world. I mean, Sergio should have done it years ago, but hey. Well Hurley, Angel Cabrera did what you wanted. He won the 2007 U.S. Open. He sure is different from your typical golfer. And hopefully Cabrera will learn to speak english by next years U.S. Open. Maybe Sergio Garcia will be his linguist. But to me the U.S. Open is the worst grand slam golf to watch year in and year out because of the propensity for poor play which we saw plenty of again this year. The USGA makes the U.S. Open brutally tough which in turn makes the golf less enjoyable to watch than it should be.

Badds died on the 1st hole. Lolz. Stop with Phil. I hate him. A lot. Gotcha Leena! ;D You took my bait with Mickelson hook, line and sinker. Mickelson does have a serious golf injury. Hopefully he and his coach Butch Harmon can pick up where they left off before Phil was injured. But these types of wrist injuries tend to linger with athletes such as golfers and tennis players. Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods both let opporunties slip by in the final round.

Can I hate on this too? It dragged on for way too long, and pushed back the broadcast of the Halle final to 1:00 AM.

Yes, all are welcome to hate on the golf majors here. ;D But cat, I object. Why do you roll your eyes at Cabrera because he doesn't speak English? I wonder how many languages YOU speak well enough to go on tv with them? Cabrera's doing just fine as he is, thank you. He should concentrate on golf; there'll always be a translator around if he needs one.

It would have been wise for Angel to learn some more languages, though... he's been in contention in slams for nearly a decade now. Gotta promote yourself!
This was the first year I got annoyed with the US Open. After EVERY bad shot, "Oakmont gets another one with its ferocious and horribly difficult evil!". Eh. That "course over players" stuff has probably been like this most years, but I was oblivious to it.
My least favorite is The Open Championship, by far. The courses are mostly crap. Winning is often based on what conditions you play in. Tradition is well and all, but I don't want that in the most important tourney of the year.

I echo your sentiments and vice versa. Janie, I'm not really knocking Cabrera. I like everything about him except his inability to speak english and his flicking cigarette butts on mutli million dollar golf courses. But at Cabrera's age and having played so many tournaments over the years in english speaking countries he should know how to speak some english by now. Vladamir Guerrero of the Angles still can't speak english after living and playing baseball in North America for over a decade. I mean please, it's ridiculous.
