K-Bond plays the winner of Czink-Zheng next. Not impossible. Then Kuznetsova or maybe her sister?
I can think of worse draws...

Serena's barely trying but Gise is playing like a junior so why should Serena put any effort in. Just awful. Wish they'd switch back to Bally; at least she puts some mustard on the ball.

Now I guess MJMS will play Venus (probably) in the third round. Did they not play ... oh, eight years ago in the first round? I recall MJMS losing 6-3 2-6 6-0 or something. It CANNOT have been that long ago! I would venture to guess it was like two years ago...I distinctly remember Carillo being quite impressed with MJMS. Australian Open Hard Jan 28 2001Qual 1 Martinez(24) - Francesca Lubiani 7-61 7-5 Qual 2 Martinez(24) - Seda Noorlander 7-5 6-2 Qual 3 Martinez(24) - Bahia Mouhtassine 4-6 6-4 11-9 1 Venus Williams(3) - Martinez-Q 6-3 2-6 6-0 lol, and look at that roster she defeated to qualify! Lubiani! Capriati nemesis Seda Noorlander, and Briny's favorite, Bahia! After that, MJMS largely disappeared for a long while before somehow re-emerging in latter times. I have no idea why or how.

I guess Gise was nervous in those first 3 games. Now at least she's getting some depth on her ball. Serena's starting to do her grunting. Wow, great shot by Gise, and she gets the break! And has more winners than Serena!
