What draw should I post?! There's a choice of 10 tournaments, all of them boring, with exception of the Istanbul 10k which actually has a couple of underachiving juniors mixed up with journeywomen and even a former top 100 player that falls into that category of very late bloomers that has Scheepers, Brianti and Domiguez Lino as the prime examples.
Istanbul 10k it is!
Julie COIN (FRA) (1) Vs Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP) Maria SAKKARI (GRE) Vs Ana BOGDAN (ROU) Anja PRISLAN (SLO) Vs Ashvarya SHRIVASTAVA (IND) Ekaterine GORGODZE (GEO) Vs Rocio DE LA TORRE-SANCHEZ (ESP) (7)
Dalila JAKUPOVIC (SLO) (4) Vs Lisa WHYBOURN (GBR) Christina SHAKOVETS (GER) Vs Keren SHLOMO (ISR) Diana ISAEVA (RUS) Vs Sofia KVATSABAIA (GEO) Julie TRINGA (FRA) Vs Vlada EKSHIBAROVA (UZB) (5)
Elina SVITOLINA (UKR) (8) Vs Sultan GONEN (TUR) Ekin BAHITLI (TUR) Vs Ankita RAINA (IND) Nour ABBES (TUN) Vs Maya GAVEROVA (RUS) Susan DARNEL (FRA) Vs Tara MOORE (GBR) (3)

Hasn't Ons Jabeur won 2 RG juniors titles? She's ranked 945 and had zero success on the professional tour in the last 12 months...

Hang on, I'm sure she's had pro success! I knew her name way before she won the RG juniors this year.

Looked up her record. Reached a 10K final in her fourth ever tournament back in '09 (beat Fokina and El Allami). Won two 10Ks last summer, and two 10K SFs last autumn. But this is just her third senior tournament of 2011 (qualified for a 25K and lost 1R, then failed to qualify for a 25K), so obviously didn't defend those points. Injuries? Finance? Affected by the Arab Spring?

I know she had some decent results in the previous few years, but she's not moving anywhere until she actually abandons the juniors and starts playing on the ITF tour regularly. A top junior player should not be ranked in the 900s only at the age of 17.
Tunisia is probably not the best tennis market, but I'd still expect she would get some long term sponsorships based on the outstanding results in juniors. I'd say the Arab spring sounds the most plausible explanation for the lack of tournaments she's played so far.
Do you guys remember Ksenia Milevskaya of Belarus? At one point I think she was ranked #2 in juniors. These days she's losing in the Qualifyings of the 10k tournaments(to Nour Abbes this time). CH in singles 227, in doubles 148, and never really hit the upper level of the Challengers, let alone WTA tournaments.

The name sounds familiar but isn't dredging up any info with it except that there were two Ksenias. Wasn't Julia Cohen near the top of the Junior ranks once, too? Meanwhile, back in Istanbul, Coin was tossed and TUN tumbled out: (Q)Ana Bogdan (ROU) d. (1)Julie Coin (FRA) 60 36 64 Anja Prislan (SLO) d. (7)Rocio De La Torre-Sanchez (ESP) 63 76(4) Christina Shakovets (GER) d. (4)Dalila Jakupovic (SLO) 76(4) 62 (5)Vlada Ekshibarova (UZB) d. Sofia Kvatsabaia (GEO) 62 61 (8)Elina Svitolina (UKR) d. (Q)Ankita Raina (IND) 63 62 (3)Tara Moore (GBR) d. Maya Gaverova (RUS) 61 ret. (Q)Ellen Allgurin (SWE) d. (Q)Ons Jabeur (TUN) 61 62 (2)Magali De Lattre (POR) d. Deniz Khazaniuk (ISR) 64 36 64

Julia Cohen reached and maintened a very high ranking by cleaning up at these weak end of the year mexican tournaments. I think she won three Casablanca Cup.
I thought Ksenia Milevskaya would be the superior Ksenia but I guess not.

Julia Cohen was ranked 4th in the juniors!? Should serve me as a reminder not to look too much into the junior results of the not as successful pros.
The final of that Istanbul 10k is between a promising junior and a journeywoman - Svitolina vs Prislan . Both are first time finalists.

16yo former jr #1 and RG jr champ Svitolina (recall that she beat Jabeur in that 2010 RG final!) took that Istanbul final, 6-2 6-7(5) 6-0.
21yo Jia-Jing LU (CHN) won an ITF event in Germany Belgium. I am pleased to say she has a twin sister, and no, it's not Jing-Jing: it's Jia-Xiang LU. They appear to be traveling in Europe together, and both played that tourney. Jia-Xiang is ranked 786 (career high 531), while Jia-Jing is at 527 (career high 444). They hail from Liaoning Province, up near Japan in the north-east.

I hope that Jing-Jing, Jia-Jing and Jia-Xiang Lu all make it on to Tour, if only for the ensuing confusion.
Jia-Jing beat Donna Vekic (CRO) in that final - Vekic turned 15 in June and this was her third 10K final of the year (she's only won one of those, though).

Jia-Jing is seeded third in Baulet-Charleroi this week. She will face local player Desiree BASTIANON. Jia-Xiang is seeded 8th, and will face French southpaw Amandine CAZEAUX.

Here's what went down at Baulet-Charleroi Final: LU (CHN) / LU (CHN) (1) defeated KISZCZYNSKA (POL) / WLODARCZAK (AUS) (2) 6-3 6-0 In the less prestigious singles event, 2nd Round: Alexandra WALKER (GBR) defeated Jia Xiang LU (CHN) (8) 6-3 6-3 Magdalena KISZCZYNSKA (POL) defeated Jia-Jing LU (CHN) (3) 6-4 6-3 The tourney was won by a Bermet DUVANAEVA, a 23yo out of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I believe this was her maiden title. Kutuzova won a $10K in Bucharest. Her first title of any kind since coming back from her one-year layoff earlier this year. She has stayed in that nation to contest a $25K, for which she has qualified (will play S.Beltrame in R1). Monica PUIG titled in the Mexico $10K. Here's an interesting one: unranked Slovak Lenka Broosova, who graduated from Baylor in 2010 and now is now director of tennis operations there, won the $10,000 in Cochabamba (BOL). It was only her second ITF tournament since 2005.

I see Julia Cohen is heading the field of a 25K in Sarajevo. She must actually scour entry lists to find out which events are weak enough that she'll be the top seed.

Don't get too excited; she was crushed by the mighty "Serena" Pous-Tio. Ah well. I suspect Pous will better her career high ranking of 73 next week, on the strength of her USO 2R and her brilliant win over the Restless One. Now I hope that Katmandu whooped Thunder!

Cleopatra Qarumashvili ! She's 16yo and her world jr ranking is a little embarrassing, so I will refrain from mentioning it. Q1r CLEOPATRA QARUMASHVILI (GEO) defeated Mariam KIKNADZE (GEO) 6-2 0-6 6-3 Q2r Tina BOKHUA (RUS) defeated CLEOPATRA QARUMASHVILI (GEO) 6-0 6-1
