She is blonde, but not crazy. She also hates talking about tennis, because it's "just a job".

And an extremely low-paying job at that ranking! Doubles, especially.

I wanted to post an exciting draw from this week, but now I see there's no such thing.
Iryna Bremond is playing a very weak 25k in Indonesia, ranked 107 she's probably trying to get directly in the MD of AO.
Julia Cohen is sightseeing in Armenia, there's a 50k in Japan with mostly Asian participation and Minella, we're also awaiting the draw from 50k in Kansas City.

In the Vegas final, Oprandi def. Glatch in a memorable epic, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (4). Glatch came back to win the doubles alongside Mashona Washington.
Hendler got the weak $25K jackpot with a Jakarta $25K title.

I guess it's the list of potential candidates for that Russian student that you girls discussed at the top of this page. And yeah, it's probably Glimakova. All other girls have quite respectable singles rankings - they'd probably mention those when talking about their tennis results.

After a hiatus that lasted for about 5 months she's coming back strong - beating Nok who was also not that bad lately. A rare sight of Namigata on the winning side has to be noted in this thread. ;D

Since when was Nok "not that bad"? She's had horrible results in every tournament she's played this year apart from qualifying for the USO, which isn't really an amazing result itself considering it ended with being bagelled by the Yak.

Since "posing" has become almost as obligatory as "choking" in women's tennis these days, it is not hard to find a pic of Ani, a 1993 kid:

She's had horrible results in every tournament she's played this year apart from qualifying for the USO, which isn't really an amazing result itself considering it ended with being bagelled by the Yak. I meant, no recent result of hers indicated a loss against Takayama, who's a player of 400-600 range and can't play on hard courts. Just a few weeks ago she reached the second round of Guangzhou and didn't get bagelled by Zheng, for instance.

Her Guangzhou win was over a WC. Prior to that, she was bagelled by Yakimova, lost to AHSHA ROLLE, Gallovits on grass, Chang, even Oudin, Yonemura, Hendler, Mijacika. Virtually the only "good" losses (there are barely any wins, let alone good wins) Nok's had this year are when she's drawn a half-decent player in a 1R. I would say Takayama is only slightly worse than all of that!

Oh god, I watched the all-Sema QF in Kofu and it was crazy. There was no sisterly love, just plain rude behavior from Erika and a very unprofessional tank by Yurika in the last 2 games of the third set. The last point of the match Yurika dictated the point with some crazy half-assed low-percentage shots and when Erika just barely managed to hit a defensive lob that landed right behind the net, all Yurika would have to do was to smash it in the open court but instead let it bounce twice and went straight to the umpire, shaked hands and went to the chairs. None of the girls even tried to meet at the net to shake hands - just straight to the umpire, ignoring one another.
Erika acted like a total brat, screaming loudly throughout the match and on the most horrible UEs by Yurika, who was visually upset by her sister's antics.
Erika won 60 46 63
It was great trashy fun.

Yeah, I bet that probably is the best a Chilean woman has ever done in pro tennis. I love it when these South Americans venture out of their home hemisphere and brave the rigors of the Euro ITFs. I don't think Koch will be the next Duque-Marino, though. Of course even Duque-Marino was only a Duque-Marino for a really short time.

It was the same for the Aussies for a long time, too, until Molik and then Stosur came along. I failed to notice that there's another 25K in Indonesia this week. Two INAs have reached the quarters: (1)Iryna Bremond (FRA) d. (Q)Yana Sizikova (RUS) 63 61 Lavinia Tananta (INA) d. (6)Nicha Lertpitaksinchai (THA) 61 46 64 (3)Chanel Simmonds (RSA) d. Yi-Jing Zhao (CHN) 61 75 (7)Luksika Kumkhum (THA) d. Nungnadda Wannasuk (THA) 75 60 (5)Tamaryn Hendler (BEL) d. Nigina Abduraimova (UZB) 63 60 (4)Ayu-Fani Damayanti (INA) d. Sung-Hee Han (KOR) w.o. (8)Nudnida Luangnam (THA) d. Sandy Gumulya (INA) 64 62 (2)Varatchaya Wongteanchai (THA) d. Nicole Rottmann (AUT) w.o. But let's face it, we're probably heading for a Bremond-Hendler final.

Chile actually did have a number one women's player: Anita Lizana. She was the first Latin American to be ranked #1 and to win a major. Maria Bueno is the only Latina who has done so since then. She won the US Open (then the US National Championships) in 1937 at age 20.Her nickname was La Ratita (the little rat). This was because of her short stature, not because she behaved like Erika Sema. It's said that she might have had a glittering career had it not been for the war. She was known for generating surprising power for a woman her size, her speed, backhand and drop shot.
She married a Scotsman named Ronald Ellis, and died in England in 1994. It's said she would have had a more memorable career were it not for the war, marriage and motherhood.
