To the Culters: Why does Ivanovic, after more than 3 years without reaching a Slam QF, still get star treatment and stadium court slots? Not a rhetorical question. I'm genuinely by this.

Oli, motivated by the negative evaluation of his career prospects posted by Yi Brin (KAZ), is a break in the third.

Speaking of sexxxing Petrova, a friend of mine once said he'd rather sexxx Nadal than her.

For the same reason that Kournikova did? Plus, it's not like there's a surfeit of superstars who transcend the sport, so may as well go with someone who looked like she might be good once.

Is Na Li, the Roland Garros 2011 champion, going to lose the tennis player formerly known as SimO_Ona?

To the Culters: Why does Ivanovic, after more than 3 years without reaching a Slam QF, still get star treatment and stadium court slots? Not a rhetorical question. I'm genuinely by this. For the same reason that Kournikova did? Plus, it's not like there's a surfeit of superstars who transcend the sport, so may as well go with someone who looked like she might be good once. First of all, BAG wasn't initially on Ashe, though I think she was scheduled for the Grandstand, so it still basically holds. Next, the HAWT factor: did that ever really pan out? I feel like the media/SEWTA always told everyone that they should think she's hot, and yet...really, I'm not sure the majority of people did. And when you look at the previous bonafide SEWTA Sexxx Symbols (Kournikova, Hantuchova...aaaaaaand I'm out), Ivanovic doesn't really fit, does she? I really don't think she is what many straight men (for they are the Sex Symbols targets) are looking for. Finally, it just comes down to Alex's other point: as far as name recognition, unfortunately, she's one of the most recognizable they have on the women's side. It helped that (a) she has, to her credit, both WON SLAM and REACHED #1, which doesn't seem to happen anymore, and (b) achieved both of those things right at the tail end of the time when either really mattered, particularly the top ranking. As much as Wozniacki is doing a disservice to the top ranking, one has to say that Schiavone, Li, Kvitova, and even Clijsters are making Slam-winning look irrelevant by not backing it up. Now, Li and Kvitova in particular should get some leeway here, but...but... If being #1 won't get you respect... And winning Slams won't get you respect... Really, what exactly is going to save this sport? To my mind, and I said it a couple of weeks ago, it really is going to take at least one semi-dominant player -- not even a "star" per se, but a benchmark, a figurehead for the sport. Justine was no glamour girl and a lot of people disliked her, but when she was on top, everyone knew where they stood, and, consequently, the sport. Now we have a peer of Gambale the Wall at #1 and a coterie of BBBs winning majors and then chumping up for months. It's not pretty.

Shockingly, Sweata might not lose today.

She did beat Seles to reach the QF and is one of my 15 or so favorite players of all time.
Upon closer inspection, RLJ is heftier than Daja.

Jamie Hampton stole Baltacha's moment. Apparently she couldn't help it, though: "Hampton is on the ground and can't move. Cramping incredibly bad."-- some TF poster Sad ending for Jamie! She's just back from an injury break, not yet ready for prime time. Apparently Bally came over and helped the trainer treat Jamie. What a nice kid! I've always had a soft spot for Bally "High".

Halep may have won, but 99,5% of that was Na Li being awful. Halep was just playing her boring clay game on hard. Stays kms behind the baseline at all times, always hitting the same loopy 1/2 pace ball, not even moving it around - her only asset is not missing much.
Na Li was already showing signs of being physically and mentally drained in New Haven.

So one of Kanepi, Halep, Soler-Espinosa, Johansson, or Suarez Navarro into the R16. Last year I'd say Kaia in a walk, but today that's anyone's ball game.
