I just... I can't put into words how much I don't understand that somebody who gets paid to do things allowed her to walk outside looking like that. She might not be the long flowery dresses type, but she's not hideous. There is just no reason this had to happen. Many. many people need firing. Jesus Christ.

I know. She's so pretty without her hat/sunglasses (not sarcasm!). This is a monstrosity.

Thanks for explaining the things not to like about Sam, Alex and Old Hag. And I agree, Hurley, she's got a really pretty face WHEN IT'S LEFT ALONE.

I should add, Sam is one of my few favorite players now, along with Franny and 2 of this year's other Slam winners.

Its not just the excess of makeup. Her dress looks like a Victorian swimming costume.

I think her chokey tendencies have been exaggerated. It's so easy for her to start spraying with her technique, not just out of nerves. And for ages she's shown that same thing that Kvitova did at Wimbledon - to completely put mini-chokes behind her and win anyway. Seriously, that Kirilenko match, with how she lost the second set. There are like three players on SEWTA who wouldn't have cried and been bagelled in the third. And I don't understand where the choker mentality came from. The RG final, I guess, but that wasn't a choke. Sam is basically a robot out there. I think she got that undeserved reputation on account of her low-key demeanour oncourt, and of being very shy and unassuming, even awkward, off it. People often mistake displays of oncourt bravado for mental strength. That's why everyone took a while to realise that say Dickmayer (or Petkorazzi) were actually wimps and chokers, even after Ivanovic's desperate looking histrionics set the precedent in that regard.

It happened to Justine too. I think against Sweta at some YEC? Or maybe Woz at IW? My memory is not what it was vs Woz at Miami last year. Henin shouted "Allez!" before the ball (which was a clean winner for her) bounced and IIRC got docked the point for hindrance. Everyone just laughed (then again it wasn't an important point). @benrothenberg Ben Rothenberg Eva Asderaki was not the chair umpire against Clijsters in 2009 (Cramer) or more likely, Capriati in 2004 (Alves). Serena confusing blondes. Engzell, not Cramer. Last year after the RG final, after Stosur had one of the most remarkable Slam runs in recent years only to bottle it within sight of the finish line, I thought "Only chance to win this big you'll ever get - gone." Happy for Stosur (even though I only hopped into her bandwagon very late - Charleston 2010, like a few others - after rabidly hating her for a couple of seasons before that), particularly as she was bold to the point of recklessness today. Good to see. Dementieva's decision to retire and stop pursuing a Slam win becomes more inexplicable with each passing Slam. I don't know if Stosur played a bad match in that French final. I think Schiavone took it from her (particularly in that sensational tiebreak). Fran was supposed to play the "happy to be here" underdog role but instead she came out believing she could win and she did. I also never thought that would be her only chance to win a major. I didn't anticipate a USO title ever, but I thought she'd be in the mix at the other three at some point.
