Yeah, something weird is going on. I had to manually remove the code, and write in the simple 'quote' one. Thanks to your post I remembered that we did read Greek myths and a couple of stories from Bible. Thankfully we never had to read the Bible itself.

BTW, I just realized that I don't remember ever reading any non-Russian authors in our literature class in school. Says a lot about the nature of our education. I don't agree with it, but I think that it's the same in a lot of places. We read Shakespeare in Canadian high schools. Why? He is the master English writer. We read Orwell, Golding ... nobody who wasn't British, in my recollection. I think we should at least add some French literature in translation to curriculae - this is a bilingual, bicultural country!
