Unless she draws the top seed in the first round or something, but I can't see that happening.

I don't know what to expect, but the nature of the win/loss is going to tell us a lot about exactly where Mirjana is at right now, which none of her matches so far this year really have.
She looks good, though.

I've been following the live scoreboard (sporadically) since Mirjana started out at 2-0. Now she's lost the first set 4-6. Let me guess: her raw power disconcerted Knapp for a minute there, but then Knapp realized all she had to do was be patient and consistent, the claycourter's mantra; keep the ball in play, play deep, lots of spin, and wait for the errors piled up from ML. Pure speculation, of course. Mirjana has especially had trouble holding her own serve.

She lost 46 36. So she's got a ways to go. But at least now she is ranked. Hope she does better in the doubles; I think she's playing with a local bumpkinette.

OK. Not ready for the Tour then. Except maybe that horrifying Fes tournament. Play ITFs, Mirjana, play lots of them.

I'm a bit disappointed but then I don't know what I expected. We know I haven't been paying much attention. I've been buying lots of records.

But yeh, she needs to play more. She can't moan about WCs now.

I'm a bit disappointed but then I don't know what I expected. We know I haven't been paying much attention. I've been buying lots of records. Lots of records? Amy Winehouse I hope. She has such a naturally souful voice. As for Lucic I hope her big win over a struggling Vesnina in the Rome qualifying is the start of a good stretch of tennis for her.

It didn't start a good stretch, unfortunately. A poster who met Mirjana in Rome said her shoulder is bothering her, but "nothing serious". I hope not. We don't need another Bovina story around here. Nonetheless, Mirjana has now ENTERED THE RANKINGS. She's already the WTA's official 524th best player. The Vesnina win will propel her into the top 500 next week.

Mirjana's new rank w/ Rome pts = #444
If she doesn't get a RG qualy WC, she should try to get late entry into the hilariously weak 50K in Carson, Calif. next week.

I wonder if what happened last time she played RG will affect her chances of getting a WC. I wouldn't think they were very good anyway. I mean, shes not Stevenson.

I wonder if what happened last time she played RG will affect her chances of getting a WC. What happened the last time she played? Anyway, she didn't get the WC, of course. But she's alleged to have accepted a WC into the Zagreb "50K + H" commencing on June 4th. She is also alleged to be planning to move back to Croatia soon. I think she does have a chance at a Wimbledon qualy WC. They gave one to Dokic last year, and her ranking was a lot worse than Mirjana's is now.

Failed a drug test because of some sort of antidepressant she had exemptions to take, or something.

update for those who don't read wtaworld: Mirjana's starting to flake out. She has just moved back to Croatia, which is great, and in interviews she was seemingly very happy to be back, and excited about playing in Zagreb next week. But now she has very suddenly pulled out from the Zagreb 50K field, citing "exhaustion" , angering the tournament director, hurting her chances for other WC opportunities not to mention sponsors, who have no use for flakes. Bad, bad move. Something must be behind it, but having tried to follow Dokic for years after her downfall, I am way too sick of these Balkan mystery dramas to care what it is. Get it together or just disappear from the public eye, Mirjana.

According to Edna Krabappel:
"The tournament director says that Mirjana withdrew from the challenger in order to attend some music festival. And she didn't tell him the news herself but had her sister and manager do it instead. He is very disappointed and doesn't think there will be any cooperation between them in the future."

Heh.
Well, Mirjana does have other "qualities" to keep her in the public eye. I hope she uses them properly.

Wait -- she's not playing so she can ATTEND A MUSIC FESTIVAL? omg, how unprofessional can you get. At least make up a backache or sore shoulder or something; didn't you learn anything in your years on the Tour?

Okay, I'm jumping ship. It's over. I'm interested in Mirjana as a tennis player, not as a Dead Head. But I don't see her name on one single challenger entry list in the coming weeks. What's that all about? So au revoir, mes enfants! I'm switching my Croatian-fave allegiance to VOJISLAVA LUKIC, aka "the Lukic with a K". Go Voji, the Lukic who actually plays! EDIT: Oops, I see that Vojislava is a Serb. So what! Go Lukic!

Theres always Teddy Lucic the Swedish footballer.
A Croatian article posted on another tennis board suggests Mirjana is now back in the US and plans to play three challengers there. Sometime. There is some discussion as to the reliability of the article.

I look at US women's challenger entry lists every week, and I haven't seen her name anywhere yet. And entry lists are out for all events starting through July 2. It's true that the only challengers around the next couple weeks are 10Ks, but she should be playing those. If Angie Haynes can play a 10K to try to get her confidence back, which she did last week, there's no reason for Lucic to stay away.
I see she's not on the Q-alt. list for the Cincinnati Tier 3, either.

What a joke this "comeback" turned out to be. Despite claiming that all she wants is to play tournaments, no matter at what level, Mirjana has played in just 4 events in all these months since her return. Although she now has a ranking that could get her into numerous challengers, she has not bothered entering even one event without a wild card. Instead she has flitted back and forth between Europe and the US, bringing her apparently unemployed sister along for the ride, while continuing to give interviews about her poverty, her bad dad, all the injustices done to her by the world, her huge determination to succeed, and her unquenchable love of the game. I *hope* I will again never be a sucker for another one of these "Balkan Bad-Dad Daughter" alleged comebacks, but knowing my past history I'll probably fall for their schizo statements again. But as for Mirjana, the only reason I want her to return now is so I can boo her and laugh at her losses. :satan:

So, you don't like players who whine about their low ranking, bitch about their lives, and refuse to get up off their asses and do anything to fix it.
Then, why are you such a devoted fan of the sistahs?

Since when do the sisters whine about their ranking and bitch about their lives? Even Mirjana hasn't whined about her ranking, that I know of. You must be living in a parallel universe, like the one Daffy Duck lives in.
